Hostin, 55, began by asserting that the total solar eclipse, the 4.8-magnitude earthquake that rocked New York City last week, and the imminent arrival of trillions of red-eyed insects are possible signs of climate change. 'We have a solar eclipse. We have the earthquake,' Hostin said. 'All those factors together might lead one to believe that either climate change exists or something significant is happening.' Co-host Joy Behar countered her claims, saying: 'Except earthquakes are not at the mercy of climate change. It's underground. It can't.' The discussion started with Alyssa Farah Griffin, The View cohost and former White House...

ABC legal analyst Sunny Hostin said Monday on ABC’s “The View” that eclipses, earthquakes and cicadas could “lead one to believe” that “climate change exists.” Partial transcript as follows: HOSTIN: I know, right? I have to say, one of our wonderful makeup artists…when the earthquake was happening, she put her coat on and she was, like, Jesus is coming. I’m out. I’m leaving. We got a solar eclipse. We’ve got an earthquake. She ran down the hallway. GRIFFIN: The Rapture is here! HOSTIN: The Rapture is here. Also, I learned that the cica-ah-das are coming.

It was a terrible quake that struck near Hualien City, Taiwan, just as the workday was beginning on Wednesday. Details aren't yet complete but, so far, nine people have been reported killed, over a thousand more injured, and 152 trapped in damaged buildings, quarries, and other places. At 7.4 on Richter Scale, the Hualien shifter was three times more powerful and released 5.6 times more energy than the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake that dropped part of San Francisco's elevated Embarcadaro freeway, killed 63 people, and injured 3,757 more. “It was pretty scary,” a visiting American told NBC News. “In all...

Created by a 7.3-magnitude earthquake in 1959, Yellowstone's Red Spouter is a thermal with many personalities. Depending on the season, it can be a hot spring, a boiling mudpot or it can just spew hot gas. Many of Yellowstone National Park’s thermal features are defined by their personalities. The regularity of Old Faithful, the colossal noise and steam clouds of Steamboat Geyser or the colorful palette of the Artists’ Paintpots. By that logic, the Red Spouter might be Yellowstone's most ambitious. Instead of building a reputation around a single personality, it tries to — and succeeds at — being many...

Did you feel it? Small, brief earthquake. A couple movements, pause, then shaking. One cat took notice. The other slept through it.

Trillions of gallons of rain have already fallen on the state of California, and more rain continues to fall as I write this article. Billions of dollars in damage has already been done, but of even greater concern is what all of this water could mean for southern California’s fault lines. As you will see below, geophysicists have discovered that the additional weight that flooding puts on fault lines can help trigger earthquakes. Of course we have been warned for many years that “the Big One” is way overdue in southern California, and when it finally happens it will be...

Scientists have discovered that 75 percent of the US - home to hundreds of millions of Americans - is at risk of damaging earthquakes. The US Geological Survey (USGS) released the latest National Seismic Hazard Model that included 350 newly discovered fault lines since the previous model in 2018 - bringing the total to about 1,000 faults. The updates increased chances of disastrous earthquakes in the central and northeastern 'Atlantic Coastal corridor' that is home to Washington DC, Philadelphia, New York and Boston.

The Melanesian Boundary Plateau was built in four different volcanic phases ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Scientists have unraveled the mystery behind how a volcanic superstructure the size of Idaho formed beneath the Pacific Ocean. Called the Melanesian Border Plateau, a team of international researchers determined the more than 85,00-square-mile structure was created when dinosaurs ruled the Earth 145 to 66 million years ago and is still growing to this day. Researchers used seismic data, rock samples and computer models to identify four periods of volcanic eruptions deep beneath the surface that started 100 million years ago. The submerged structure was also found to...

In November of 2020, a freak wave came out of the blue, lifting a lonesome buoy off the coast of British Columbia 17.6 meters high (58 feet)...Unfortunately, a 2020 study predicted wave heights in the North Pacific are going to increase with climate change, which suggests the Ucluelet wave may not hold its record for as long as our current predictions suggest.

Scientists have identified a previously unknown fault line in Canada, raising concerns about a potential tsunami threat for over a million Americans in the Northwestern U.S. The fault, named XEOLXELEK-Elk Lake Fault (XELF), spans approximately 50 miles through British Columbia, as reported by the Daily Mail. The fault's discovery, made by a team including Nick Harrichhausen, a postdoctoral researcher at the Université Grenoble Alpes in France, highlights its potential to trigger a significant earthquake in Canada. Harrichhausen stated that the fault's structure could induce a tsunami in the region surrounding the Georgia Basin, affecting Washington State and British Columbia areas.

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Tsunami warnings have ended for parts of the coastal Philippines after a magnitude 7.6 earthquake struck off the southeastern coast Saturday night, according to the USGS. The quake struck at 10:37 p.m. local time Saturday night, or 9:37 a.m. ET, near the province of Surigao del Sur in Mindanao, the second-largest island of the Philippines. The USGS noted the quake occurred at a depth of 32.8 km, or just over 20 miles deep out at sea.

The whole of Iceland 'is on edge' as experts say earthquakes which have been rumbling beneath the surface for days and have torn through a town are a precursor to a volcanic eruption. More than 700 quakes have been recorded in the southwestern Reykjanes Peninsula since yesterday, and despite them being slightly weaker than in previous days the Fagradalsfjall volcano is still expected to erupt. Iceland has been shaken by thousands of tremors over the past few days, with a state of emergency declared on Friday and around 4,000 people ordered to leave the fishing community of Grindavik. Evacuated residents...

The USGS reported a 5.2-magnitude earthquake took place around 4.24 a.m. 23 miles west-southwest of Mentone in far West Texas. (Editor’s Note: The USGS originally reported the quake was 5.3 magnitude before changing it). The quake was one of dozens to take place Wednesday morning in the region, according to EarthquakeTrack.com ... California's supervolcano that has the power to bury Los Angeles in more than 3,000 feet of ash is showing signs of activity. Scientists at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) identified over 2,000 earthquakes rumbling throughout the Long Valley Caldera in recent years. The team conducted a new investigation to see if the seismic activity was a sign of impending doom or that the risk of a massive eruption was decreasing. Caltech researchers created detailed underground images of the caldera, finding that the recent seismic activity results from fluids and gases released as the area cools off and settles down....

A strong and shallow earthquake registered by the USGS as M6.3 at 03:36 UTC (08:06 local time) on October 15, 2023. The agency is reporting a depth of 8 km (5 miles). This region of Afghanistan was hit by a total 4 of M6.3 earthquakes (USGS) since October 7 when twin M6.3s killed more than 2 400 people. The epicenter was located 30.2 km (18.7 miles) NNW of Herāt (population 574 300), 41.2 km (25.6 miles) N of Chahār Burj (population 11 935), 44.7 km (27.8 miles) NE of Zindah Jān (population 10 104), Herat, Afghanistan.
