  • Government secretly orders Google to track anyone searching certain names, addresses, and phone numbers

    Washington Examiner ^ | October 5, 2021 | Nihal Krishan
The U.S. government is reportedly secretly issuing warrants for Google to provide user data on anyone typing in certain search terms, raising fears that innocent online users could get caught up in serious crime investigations at a greater frequency than previously thought. In an attempt to track down criminals, federal investigators have started using new "keyword warrants" and used them to ask Google to provide them information on anyone who searched a victim's name or their address during a particular year, an accidentally unsealed court document that Forbes found shows. Google has to respond to thousands of warrant orders each...

    News.com.au ^ | 07/01/2020 | Shannon Molloy
For generations, the United States has been viewed by much of the world as an infallible beacon of strength and power, thanks to its economic, military and social prowess. These days, the country is far from dominant. Instead, America is exhibiting all of the key indicators that political experts use to characterise a failing state – the kind of nation on the brink you might’ve found in the post-Soviet era or in war-torn regions of Africa and the Middle East. The notion that the world’s oldest functioning democracy could ever fail was, until recently, “unthinkable to all but the most...

A brilliant website is tracking and republishing videos that are being censored by YouTube. altCensored features videos from across the political spectrum, and many that aren’t political at all, that have been removed by the video streaming giant. The goal of the website, which was created in 2019, is to “be the reference for YouTube censored content through a community effort across ideological lines” and to “raise awareness of increasing online censorship,” according to a statement provided to Gateway Pundit. In order to do this, altCensored tracks videos that are placed behind a “limited state” firewall by the platform. “YouTube...

Google blamed “vandalism” at Wikipedia for inaccurate search results on their platform, which claimed the California GOP promotes Nazism, however Google failed to note that they prioritize results from Wikipedia as an authoritative source of information. “We have systems in place that catch vandalism before it impacts search results, but occasionally errors get through, and that’s what happened here,” claimed Google in a statement. “This would have been fixed systematically once we processed the removal from Wikipedia, but when we noticed the vandalism we worked quickly to accelerate this process to remove the erroneous information.” Despite Google’s efforts to shift...

Google gathered a star-studded cast of celebrities, including Alicia Keys, Laverne Cox, and Oprah Winfrey, to help celebrate Dr. Maya Angelou. Today's Doodle honoring the poet, civil rights activist, and author on what would have been her 90th birthday is nothing short of a masterpiece. When you click the homepage illustration, you'll hear the words of Angelou's empowering poem "Still I Rise" read aloud as drawings illustrating each line fill the screen. The recorded reading from Angelou is interspersed with sections read by Keys, Cox, Winfrey, America Ferrera, Martina McBride, and Angelou's son, Guy Johnson.

Politicians in Washington aren’t going to care much right now about a movie depicting the short life of a Christian girl, according to film producer Chuck Howard. But that’s not going to stop the Nashville resident from trying to motivate lawmakers to take on Google and dismantle what he says has become a biased media monopoly. ... faith-based film “I’m Not Ashamed,” .. film’s trailer garnered over 5 million views before YouTube removed the channel nearly a year ago. The channel was recently reinstated after The Hollywood Reporter contacted YouTube about the incident. However, the channel was hit with a...

A very Merry Christmas to NewsBusters readers everywhere! Just out of curiosity, I took a look at the Google doodle for this Christmas Day. See below: it's bland, boring and above all, void of any reference at all to the holiday itself. I decided to have a look at the ways Google observed other days with its doodles. And sure enough, exactly one month to the day before Christmas Eve, Google celebrated "the 41st anniversary of the discovery of Lucy," she being the skeleton of a hominin found in Ethiopia. Google's animated gif doodle shows a monkey walking on all...

Hoping for your help in finding the source of a line from a song. I've Googled, and otherwise searched to no success. Am looking for the title of the song. The lyric below, is a baseball reference, and it may not be exact, but it is very close... "Hitch up your britches, take one of those pitches, and 'bam' it's over the fence".

I love how “evil” Google is. Do you hear that, Google? I want you to have all of my data, as long as you keep protecting it. I want you to learn everything you can about me, and I want you to use that data to make my life better. I want you to make my life easier. I want services like Google Now to give me information before I even know I need it. I want it all. But many people aren’t in the same boat as me, and there are plenty of very valid reasons to want to...

Google slow to respond. A Polish security firm has discovered more vulnerabilities in the Java coding platform used on Google's App Engine (GAE) cloud computing service, which could allow users to get access beyond their own virtual machines. The Security Explorations team, which has made a name for itself by unearthing large numbers of security holes in Oracle's Java framework over the past few years, said it had reported seven vulnerabilities to Google, along with proof of concept code. Three of the flaws allow complete bypass of the GAE Java security sandbox. Such a bypass could be used by attackers...

Google introduced a feature earlier this year that lets users download their entire search history, but some have pointed out that you can also completely delete it, which might be a good decision from a security or data tracking standpoint. According to Venture Beat, Google released this download feature in January, but it just recently got attention when it made it onto the Google Operating System blog, which is an unofficial Google news and tips website.

Hillary Rodham Clinton has hired a longtime Google executive to oversee her likely presidential campaign's technology development and build new ways for Clinton to engage with voters, according to Democrats with knowledge of the move. Stephanie Hannon, who is Google's director of product management for civic innovation and social impact, will become the chief technology officer of the expected Clinton campaign, according to the Democrats, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the appointment. At Clinton's New York campaign headquarters, Hannon will serve on the senior staff and oversee a team of engineers...

By the way, the FCC's Internet power grab is a bigger deal than executive amnesty. If it seems insane that Google at one point lobbied hard for so-called "net neutrality," you have to realize that the biggest and most influential players always figure they can benefit when a market becomes more political. That's because they figure they're in a better position to manipulate the market to their benefit. So imagine Eric Schmidt's horror when he realized that last week's power grab from the FCC was no ordinary bit of regulatory meddling in an otherwise free market. The heavy-handed move of three FCC...
