A federal grand jury has issued a subpoena seeking information about Andrew Gillum’s 2018 campaign for governor and his associates at non-profits he’s worked for, according to a report from the Tampa Bay Times. The Times obtained a copy of the subpoena, which asked for information on John Jackson, president and CEO of the Massachusetts-based Schott Foundation for Public Education, where Gillum was a board member until 2017; Opportunity to Learn Action Fund, where Gillum was president until at least 2017; Donald Sussman, who donated $1.5 million to Gillum’s campaign; and Sharon Lettman-Hicks, CEO of the National Black Justice Commission,...

Nine years ago Rick Scott, then a Florida businessman, sat down with a group of self-described jaded Republican strategists to discuss what it would take for him to run for governor. "You are not going to get anywhere with Hispanic voters, but we'll try," said Wes Anderson, founding partner and pollster for OnMessage Inc. (where my co-author, Brad Todd, works). "Rick Scott looked at us and just shook his head. He said, 'I reject your dismissal of Hispanic voters. We are going to pursue them, and we're gonna pursue them hard,'" explained Anderson. "He flat-out rejected that there was this...

GOP senator-elect holding onto governor post until Ron DeSantis takes over Florida Sen.-elect Rick Scott has opted to remain governor of the Sunshine State until Republican Ron DeSantis takes over, delaying his swearing-in for the Senate to Jan. 8. His fellow senators-elect will join the chamber on Jan. 3 at the start of the 116th Congress. “Gov. Scott will remain governor until January 8th, 2019,” John Tupps, a spokesman for Scott, told the Tampa Bay Times. “U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has agreed to hold the ceremony for Governor Scott's swearing-in as U.S. senator from Florida that afternoon.” Tupps...

You supposedly won’t have Brenda Snipes to kick around anymore. The subject of one of the more famous “Florida Woman” stories of late is reported to have resigned her position as Broward County Election Supervisor, taking effect in January. After numerous, spectacular failures in processing election results over the years, Saturday’s debacle of submitting their recount results two minutes after the deadline had passed was apparently a bridge too far and Ms. Snipes is stepping down. (Washington Times) Taking a page from the playbook of disgraced public officials around the country, Snipes reportedly wants to “spend more time with her...

It's been more than one week since polls closed on Election Night in Florida, with tight national races and recount efforts again spotlighting the Sunshine State. In Broward and Palm Beach Counties, there have been a slew of ballot issues. Election officials in both counties have a history of incompetence and corruption. Broward County Election Supervisor Brenda Snipes was convicted for illegally destroying ballots in 2016 and has a long record of questionable practices. Broward County Supervisor of Elections, Brenda Snipes, has a long history of fraud. Here are just some headlines from the past few years about misconduct, and outright violation...

In a victory for the campaign hopes of U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, a federal judge has ordered all of Florida’s elections officials to give nearly 4,000 voters — or more than, no one is sure — whose ballots were rejected over mismatched signatures until Saturday to fix the problem and for their votes to count. Judge Mark Walker ruled early today that apparently all of the state’s elections offices have wrongly, or unconstitutionally, applied the state law governing how voters can fix rejected signatures on absentee and provisional ballots. There were a known 3,700 ballots rejected in the Midterm election...

At an impromptu press conference Saturday afternoon, U.S. Congressman Matt Gaetz stood on the back of a moving van filled with boxes labeled “pallets of ballots” and called for the removal of Broward County Supervisor of Elections Brenda Snipes. Gaetz said the boxes upon boxes of paper behind him on the truck approximated the more than 80,859 ballots that “materialized out of thin air” in Broward County and were added to statewide vote totals since election day. The Broward County Supervisor of Elections has not explained where the votes came from. In response, Florida Governor Rick Scott filed a lawsuit...

Snipes’ disregard for voters is shameful... TALLAHASSEE, FL – Today, Caldwell Campaign spokeswoman Danielle Alvarez released the following statement: “Brenda Snipes continues to believe she is above the law. Our process server has tried to deliver our lawsuit both last night and again this morning, a period of more than 14 hours, but Snipes refuses to be served. Her disregard for Florida voters and the integrity of this election is illegal and shameful.” “How can we trust the integrity and accuracy of the electoral process in Broward County?” On Friday, November 9, the Matt Caldwell Campaign filed suit against the...

In a series of tweets issued Tuesday, Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., warned that Democrat lawyers now want a judge to unilaterally change Florida law in order to let Democrats steal the election in Florida. “Imagine if NFL team was trailing 24-22 but in final seconds hits a 3 pt kick to win. Then AFTER game lawyers for losing team get a judge to order rules changed so that last second field goals are only 1 point,” he said on Twitter. “Well that’s how democrat lawyers plan to steal #Florida election.” “For example, #Florida law requires that the voter signatures on...

A judge has ruled that the Florida election recount has to be finished by Thursday. So at least this will all be over in a few days, right? You might want to hold your horses on that one. Yesterday, Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections Susan Bucher (whose vote-counting history we’ve highlighted here before) told CNN that it was going to be “impossible” for her to meet the deadline. In a separate interview later, she went so far as to suggest that they may have to scrap the recount and just certify the original election results. (The Hill) SEE ALSO:...

President Donald Trump expressed skepticism about a recount in the Florida election on Monday, claiming it was impossible to conduct a fair tally. “An honest vote count is no longer possible-ballots massively infected,” he wrote on Twitter. “Must go with Election Night!” The recount of the midterm election vote has already started with the deadline for results on Thursday. Trump suggested that Florida officials call the election in favor of Republican Rick Scott for Senator and Ron DeSantis for governor. “Large numbers of new ballots showed up out of nowhere, and many ballots are missing or forged,” he wrote, referring...

Avis employee at Ft. Lauderdale airport found a box labeled with the SOE (Supervisor of Elections) and the word “Provisional” was found in the back of the returned car. According to the Avis employee the last person to drive the car was a Broward County employee DeNapoli discovered who the car was rented to — Noah Holliman — a Democrat who works at the Broward Supervisor of Elections. Laura Loomer and Jacob Engels were tipped off and drove to the airport but were denied entry. The media is refusing reporters entry into the area.

Nearly a week after the election ended in most of the country, it continues in Broward County, Florida. The Republicans won the first vote, but the Democrats are getting ever closer with each subsequent recount. This is the same Broward County that kept recounting votes in the Bush / Gore Presidential election. Bush won the first vote, and every subsequent recount, but (surprise!) the gap got narrower every time the votes were recounted. Every recount ended up with a better result for the Democrat. Every time. That’s a concerning coincidence. But what’s more concerning is that nobody was surprised. The...

From pro-Trump protesters to swarming lawyers to paper jams, the latest ballot counting isn't making the state look any better than the last one. LAUDERHILL, Fla. — Inside, a man in a suit argued for the merits of a paper clip over staples. Outside, a man in a Hillary Clinton mask held signs arguing for the former Democratic presidential nominee to be sent to prison along with local election officials. Florida's statewide recounts got underway Sunday morning with lawsuits, protests and some high-stakes paper jams as both parties dug in for a prolonged legal battle over critical Senate and gubernatorial...

As a registered Republican in infamous Broward County, Florida, this writer offers two salient points regarding the ongoing recount controversy that will determine if Governor Rick Scott will become Senator Rick Scott. As of this writing, Scott is leading incumbent Senator Bill Nelson by less than 13,000 votes — a 0.15 point margin out of over eight million votes cast.My first point is about ballot design and the second is math.Over two weeks before Election Day I voted at my kitchen table along with over 2.6 million other Floridians who chose to vote by mail. The ballot was five pages long. Several major Florida media outlets are running stories today explaining that the likelihood of the contentious Florida election recount changing the results of Tuesday’s elections are very small. That is good news for Republicans, bad news for Democrats, on a couple of fronts. The state's largest paper, the Tampa Bay Times, reported: "...a recount that reverses an initial margin of more than a few hundred votes would be unprecedented in the recent history of American elections. According to an analysis by the nonpartisan group FairVote, which advocates for electoral reforms that make it easier to vote, out of 4,687 statewide...
