Los Angelians eager to fill their fall wardrobes with fur may want to stock up now, as city council members have introduced a proposal banning its sale. If the measure passes, the City of Angles would be the largest American metropolis to bar the sale and production of the controversial product. On August 1, over a dozen animal welfare activists met with Councilman Paul Koretz at City Hall to discuss the issue, the L.A. Times reports. If the proposal, written by Koertz and fellow council member Bob Blumenfield, were to pass, L.A. would join West Hollywood, Berkeley and San Francisco in instating...

WASHINGTON -- Congressman-turned-convicted-felon Jesse Jackson Jr. will sell his town house in the nation’s capital to help pay a $750,000 forfeiture he owes, according to a court filing today. Jackson, 48, a Chicago Democrat who quit Congress last November, was sentenced to two and a half years in prison on Aug. 14 after using $750,000 in campaign cash on a Rolex watch, furs, vacations, celebrity memorabilia, mounted elk heads and other whims. He has not yet reported to prison, but is expected to do so shortly, a federal Bureau of Prisons official said.
  • Marc Jacobs' 'faux fur' garments actually use the coats of Chinese canines

It's a faux fur fakeout — Marc Jacobs jackets being sold at Century 21 department stores actually contain dog hair. Even if the labels say otherwise, the “faux fur” garments sold by the retailer are made with the fur of cuddly Chinese raccoon dogs, a breed that’s often skinned alive for its soft coat. Tests arranged as part of an undercover probe by the Humane Society and state Assembly member Linda Rosenthal (D-Manhattan) identified various items hawked by Century 21 as containing real canine fur, disgusted shoppers found out Thursday.

Rick Santorum's latest attempt to use a Mitt Romney aide's "Etch-A-Sketch" remark against the Republican front-runner instead gave his rival a chance to fire back on Thursday, after Santorum seemed to say he'd rather see President Obama reelected than send Romney to the White House. Speaking at an event in Texas, Santorum again made the case that Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom's comments Wednesday on CNN about a "reset" of the campaign if Romney clinched the nomination showed the former Massachusetts governor's efforts to appeal to conservatives were insincere. "You win by giving people the opportunity to see a different vision...

He was close now. Patrick Kwan shuffled forward with the line, his eyes on the woman signing her name to the jackets of her new compact disc and making small talk with the fans led one at a time to meet her. He clutched a CD himself. He had shivered for hours through a snowstorm for the chance to spend hours more in this second queue – to be one of 500 fans who’d actually meet Jennifer Lopez. The payoff was now at hand. A man in a suit told Kwan to raise his arms. He did so. The man...
