I have a good friend who believes, gloomily, bitterly, resignedly, that not only are we in for four more years of painful and cheerless BushCo-branded tyranny and misprision and aww-shucks dumb-guy shtick, but also that we are actually at the beginning of a long, brutal, fear-based Republican juggernaut that will last a good 16 more years, at least. Of course, sympathetic media outlets are treating this series of phony disclosures as if it were some truly monumental literary work, offering their own deep analysis and character assessments, based on the assumption that the conversations and encounters among the former “first family” members had any legitimacy whatsoever. Hillary, they conclude, ought to be forgiven for her past ignorance, indifference, and defensiveness, and only those attributes that would qualify her as chief executive should be considered when pondering her fitness for that office.
