National Hispanic Heritage Month officially kicks off Sept. 15, marking the 35th year of the celebration of Hispanic cultures and their contributions to the U.S. As Hispanic people continue being one of the U.S.’ most visible communities, many questions about terminology arise. The current most common ways Hispanic populations refer to themselves are “Hispanic,” “Latino/Latina” and “Chicano,” but the newer gender-neutral term “Latinx” attempts to be more inclusive to non-binary members of the population

Five Latino members of the Connecticut Legislature co-sponsored a bill last month to ban the word “Latinx” from all state documents. As lawmaker Geraldo Reyes Jr. put it recently, “We don’t really use it, and we find it very offensive.” Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders has also prohibited official use of the term, which the Associated Press characterizes as a “gender-neutral” alternative to Latino. The AP describes Ms. Sanders as “tapping into a debate that’s divided Hispanics along generational lines,” but I‘ve seen no evidence of such a debate here in predominantly Latino Miami-Dade County. Nobody uses Latinx here either....

A group of Hispanic lawmakers in Connecticut has proposed that the state follow Arkansas’ lead and ban the term "Latinx" from official government documents, calling it offensive to Spanish speakers. The word is used as a gender-neutral alternative to "Latino" and "Latina" and is helpful in supporting people who do not identify as either male or female, according to the word’s backers. But state Rep. Geraldo Reyes Jr. of Waterbury, the bill’s chief sponsor and one of five Hispanic Democrats who put their names on the legislation, said Latinx is not a Spanish word but is rather a "woke" term...

As expected liberals went into whining mode over new Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders issuing an executive order banning state government from using the offensive PC term "LatinX." The liberals may whine but here is an HILARIOUS response to their angst.

Arkansas Republican Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders will prohibit the use of the term “Latinx” in government documents through an executive order. Sanders, who was sworn in as the first female governor of Arkansas on Tuesday, justified the ban of the word “Latinx” in government documents and name titles by citing a Pew Research poll that found only 3% of American Latinos and Hispanics used the term to describe themselves. “Ethnically insensitive and pejorative language has no place in official government documents or government employee titles,” Sanders’ executive order states. “The government has a responsibility to respect its citizens and use...

San Francisco Unified school board commissioner Ann Hsu, who was widely condemned for racist comments she made earlier this year, has lost her seat to challenger Alida Fisher. Though previously Hsu was in third place in the Board of Education race — for three open seats — she dropped to fourth place on Monday, and never recovered. As of Thursday, Hsu had no viable path to win. Hsu has 17.14% of the vote, with challenger Alida Fisher surpassing her at 17.75%. Fisher is leading Hsu by 4,054 votes — an insurmountable lead considering the 800 ballots left to count by...

The play’s author, who is Black, said he crafted its language to be historically accurate in representing civil rights struggles. But the theater program at the university heeded the call of students. Texas Wesleyan University halted its production of “Down In Mississippi,” a play about registering voters in the 1960s, after criticism from students who said racist epithets in the script could contribute to a hostile, unwelcoming environment. Its author said he was using that language to represent the reality of the period. The play by Carlyle Brown, a Black playwright based in Minneapolis, focuses on the efforts of a...

Salon published an article on Sunday warning that the term “Latinx” is neither popular nor “inclusive” enough to be used anymore. “‘Latinx’ is used as an individual identity for those who are gender-nonconforming,” Professor Melissa K. Ochoa wrote, but said after the term became popular only with academics and young Americans rather than Spanish-speaking people, it should be retired. The article, titled “Stop using ‘Latinx’ if you really want to be inclusive,” was republished from The Conversation. […] In October 2017, Salon published a piece headlined “Forget About ‘Latino’ — why I’m all for ‘Latinx,’ and you should be, too.”...

Jill Biden recently referred to Latino people as "Breakfast Tacos," eschewing the more politically correct term, "Brxxkfst Txcxs." Despite her faux pas, this isn't the first time she's used colorful language to describe some ethnicities. Here are most of the other times: "Italians are a basket of free breadsticks at Olive Garden." "The Irish are a variety pack of 12 different beers." "White people are a rainbow of different mayonnaises." "The Chinese are like a delightful assortment of fortune cookies." "Pakistanis are like a bountiful selection of different Slurpees at 7-Eleven." "Black people are clean and articulate." "Scottish people are...

U.S. — According to recent polling data, the Americans described by Jill Biden as "breakfast tacos" are inexplicably switching to the Republican Party in record numbers. "We aren't sure why the Latinx, who are as special and unique as a breakfast taco — or maybe a toasted cheddar chalupa — are leaving the Democrats," said Dr. Jill Biden while performing routine spinal surgery on one of her patients. "Don't they know how much we Democrats care about their vote? Perhaps we need more abortions and drag queen story hours." Local breakfast taco Carlos Hernandez isn't convinced. "You know, I'm just...

The National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) responded on Monday to a much-criticized comment by first lady Jill Biden calling the Latino community “as unique as the breakfast tacos here in San Antonio,” saying that the remark was culturally inappropriate. “We are not tacos,” wrote the NAHJ in a statement criticizing Biden. “NAHJ encourages Dr. Biden and her speech writing team to take the time in the future to better understand the complexities of our people and communities,” the group added. Biden made the remark earlier Monday at the 2022 UnidosUS Annual Conference held in Texas, where she spoke on...

First lady Jill Biden on Monday mispronounced “bodega” during a speech to a Hispanic advocacy group — drawing renewed comparisons to cartoon fellow teacher Peggy Hill. Biden hailed the “bow-get-taas” of The Bronx during a speech in San Antonio, Texas, with such confidence that social media users recalled the “King of the Hill” cartoon character, a substitute teacher in Texas who taught Spanish without being able to correctly say “Español.” The first lady’s pronunciation was closer to that of Colombian capital “Bogotá” than the standard pronunciation “bow-day-guh.”

VIDEODOCTOR Jill Biden took a quick trip to San Antonio, Texas in order to perform a deep pander for the "Latinx" community. Yes, that is what the official name of the event was, "Latinx IncluXion Luncheon." I guess they felt it was okay to butcher the Spanish language with "LatinX" if they also mangled the English language with "IncluXion." Perhaps we should be thankful that DOCTOR Jill did not attempt to pronounce "LatinX." As you can see this is not the first time that DOCTOR Jill attempted to speak cringe Spanish.

Apparently New Yorker contributing writer Graciela Mochkofsky hasn't gotten the message yet, which has been repeated over and over again for the past few years, that a vast majority of the Spanish speaking community in the United States finds the incredibly awkward word "Latinx" to be both absurd as well as offensive. In 2020, Washington Post reporter Jose A. Del Real wrote that "Users of “Latinx” are accused of being out of touch with working-class Latino communities and of practicing linguistic imperialism on the Spanish language, which, like French and Italian, is grammatically gendered."Mochkofsky's Friday story, "A Different Kind of Bid...

The academic intelligentsia’s obsession with the term “Latinx” is confusing yet enduring. Although roughly 40 percent of Latino voters find the term, meant as a non-gendered alternative to the masculine “Latino” and the feminine “Latina,” to be offensive, it is part of the everyday lexicon of academics and education journalists. On a purely linguistic level, Latinx sounds odd in English, and it makes even less sense in Spanish, the language of the people whom Latinx’s users and advocates claim to represent. But my issues with the word go far beyond linguistic quibbles. It’s personal. Don’t let my last name fool...

President Joe Biden is in big trouble because, since 2018, there has been a 42 point shift toward Republicans from Democrats among Hispanic voters. What makes this game-changing is because now a generic congressional candidate who’s Republican beats a generic Democratic congressional candidate by 2 points among Hispanic voters. In this episode, Larry points out how Hispanic Americans are waking up and turning against the “wokeness” pushed by the left, but will black Americans do the same?

Woke speech codes suffered a major setback when some Hispanic lawmakers and the country’s oldest Hispanic rights group put the kibosh on the use of the transgender-friendly term “Latinx.” The rejection of the Latinx label even extended to prominent Democratic lawmakers. “I’m Latina, you know. Latinx — that’s, bull——,” said Rep. Nydia M. Velazquez, a New York Democrat and the first Puerto Rican woman elected to the House. The League of United Latin American Citizens, the oldest Hispanic civil rights group in the U.S., also kicked Latinx to the curb. Domingo Garcia, the group’s president, told its communications team and...

I'm so furious that I'm about to throw a shoe at my TV screen. Right now, I'm watching the pre-show on Telemundo for the Miss Universe Pageant, which will be broadcast from Israel tonight at 8PM on FOX and on Telemundo.Since it's the 70th anniversary of the pageant, the hosts of the pre-show are reminiscing through the decades and analyzing all of the owners and host countries. When the got to Trump's tenure (1996-2015), one of the hosts, Lupita Jones (who was Miss Universe 1991, representing Mexico) went on full blast, saying that Trump offended and alienated all Latin Americans...
