Megyn Kelly tonight brought viewers the first part of her contentious showdown with Professor Ward Churchill, best known for his controversial comments about the “little Eichmanns” who were in the World Trade Center when the planes hit on September 11th. ... Churchill stood by the Eichmann comment, saying, “You do not have to be the one who turned on the gas if you’re making it possible for the gas to be there.”

He will go down in history as the guy who called the victims of September 11 “little Eichmanns”—a reference to the notorious Nazi bureaucrat who helped ship hundreds of thousands of Jews to concentration camps. Ward Churchill’s comment, included in a long-forgotten essay dug up by an enterprising journalism student, stirred a national debate about the power of unpopular words—and the proper consequences for those who use them. But the saga of the tenured University of Colorado ethnic studies professor grew more complicated in 2006, after allegations surfaced that Churchill had plagiarized, falsified or misrepresented some of his other scholarly...

A footnote on Ward Churchill - Who can forget Ward “little Eichmanns” Churchill, the “ethnic studies” professor at the University of Colorado whose odious remark comparing the victims of 9/11 to Nazi bureaucrats sparked a firestorm of eminently deserved criticism? The closer one looked into the case of Ward Churchill, the worse it got. This tenured radical had been battening on the public purse for decades—and for what? A congeries of radical political diatribes masquerading as scholarship in a bogus discipline. Much of what Churchill published was simply fabricated. Much else turned out to have been plagiarized. A university committee...

An ethnic studies professor from the University of Colorado, Ward Churchill, received a standing ovation last night from a crowd of more than 200 New School students after blaming the 2001 World Trade Center attacks on America's support of Israel and its sanctions against Iraq in 1996. In a two-hour speech at the New School titled "Sterilizing History: The Fabrication of Innocent Americans," delivered without notes, Mr. Churchill traced what he called a pattern of mass murder as American foreign policy from the time of the country's inception to the events of September 11, 2001, which he said the country...

Ward Churchill, the professor who called some of the World Trade Center victims “little Eichmanns,” should be fired because of “repeated and deliberate” infractions of scholarship rules, a University of Colorado committee said today. The recommendation, which came on a 6-3 vote, now goes to university officials for a final decision.

A small group of students at the University of Colorado confronted Ward Churchill outside his classroom Wednesday about his essay on the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center. "Who do you think deserved to die?" asked Ian VanBuskirk, 23, chairman of the College Republicans. "Why don't you circle the names?" he said as he tried to hand Churchill a marker while pointing to a large banner carried by other students that listed the names of all the victims of the Sept. 11 attacks. Churchill, who was surrounded by students, as he made his way to his basement...

University of Colorado professor Ward Churchill's latest toxic remarks, this time condoning - if not encouraging - attacks on military officers, are beyond outrageous. "Conscientious objection removes a given piece of cannon fodder from the fray," Churchill said at an anti-military forum last week in Portland, Ore. "Fragging an officer has a much more impactful effect." Fragging is the killing or injuring of a military officer by a subordinate. How is it that CU can produce Nobel prize-winning research but still can't find a way to get Churchill off its payroll? Until he's removed as a tenured professor, double-digit tuition...

Prof defends academic work with 50 pages in response to criticism By Charlie Brennan, Rocky Mountain News May 17, 2005 University of Colorado professor Ward Churchill on Monday submitted his response to the faculty committee that is investigating whether he committed research misconduct and should lose his tenured teaching position. His attorney, David Lane, said a response of more than 50 pages, single-spaced, was delivered to a committee representative Monday afternoon. Lane said that Churchill answered each and every point on which his past scholarship and academic credentials have been challenged. "He responded to everything, including the absolutely unconstitutional inquiry...

University of Colorado Professor Ward Churchill, under fire for linking Sept. 11 victims with Nazis, drew what seemed to be a largely sympathetic audience of more than 400 people to UC Berkeley Monday. Accusing critics of demonizing him, Churchill said that his comment characterizing World Trade Center workers as "little Eichmanns" had been distorted and that an ensuing conservative campaign against him posed a threat to all who would criticize government or society. Churchill, an ethnic studies professor at the University of Colorado at Boulder, said he did not express support for those who launched the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks....

Ward Churchill, the University of Colorado professor who provoked a national tempest by referring to victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks as "little Eichmanns," has been invited to speak at UC Berkeley on Monday. Churchill will be featured speaker at a noon public forum on academic freedom and the furor ignited by his views. "I am pleased to invite Professor Churchill to the birthplace of the Free Speech Movement in higher education," said panel organizer Ling-chi Wang, an associate professor of ethnic studies at Cal. "He will present his case for the first time to the Berkeley community." Churchill,...

The effort to remove fascists in the Middle East and jump-start democracy, for all its ups and downs, has been opposed not just by principled critics who bristled at tactics and strategy, but also by peculiarly vehement cynics here and abroad — whose disgust was so often in direct proportion to their relative political impotence. One of their most hackneyed charges, begun almost at the beginning of this war, has been the Bush/America as Hitler/Nazi Germany comparison. True, fast-changing events in the Middle East recently have left many of these hypercritics either embarrassed, discredited — or desperately reinventing themselves into...

Stacks of papers sit on a sun-drenched table in the home of University of Colorado professor Ward Churchill, some full of praise and others full of dark threats and unprintable insults. In one message, liberal scholar Noam Chomsky calls Churchill's achievements of inestimable value, while an e-mail in another pile warns: "If you ever come to Florida, I will personally bash your (expletive) brains in." This is Churchill's new life: Since January, he has been at the center of a firestorm over free speech for likening some Sept. 11 victims to Adolf Eichmann, a Nazi architect of the Holocaust. The...

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) - An embattled professor who set off a firestorm with an essay comparing some Sept. 11 victims to a notorious Nazi refuted allegations Wednesday he plagiarized another professor's work and physically threatened her. The allegations arose during negotiations between Ward Churchill and the University of Colorado over a buyout of his contract in the wake of his controversial essay resurfacing in January. Talks broke down Friday after the Rocky Mountain News reported that a professor at Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia accused Churchill of plagiarizing her work and threatening her. Churchill flatly denied plagiarizing anyone's work and...

To the casual observer, now-infamous University of Colorado professor Ward Churchill—who labeled 9/11 victims “little Eichmanns”—would seem little more than an unfortunate speck on the fringe of the far left. An investigestion by this journalist, however, uncovered substantial evidence suggesting otherwise. The media was quick to describe Ward Churchill's 2002 essay—where he also wrote of the “gallant sacrifices” of the “combat teams” that killed almost 3,000 Americans—as “little noticed.” (USA Today, February 9) It was, however, noticed—and honored—by a liberal organization last year. Churchill adapted his essay into a book, “On the Justice of Roosting Chickens,” which earned honorable mention...

Ward Hill as a member of the schismatic Boulder/Denver branch of AIM [American Indian Movement] as spent his whole life trashing the FBI and police. Here is what he said in his "Roosting Chickens" article. He is an anarchist who publishes his books through anarchist publishers. He wants to trash our law enforcement and intelligence organizations so that we will be destroyed. He doesn't want to make them better. He want the USA off the planet. He has often depicted the FBI and CIA as terrorist organizations.

At the very least, even the toughest identity police among us will have to admit that, as a United States citizen, Churchill has the right to ethnically self-identify in any way he wants, as is the official policy of the U.S. Census Bureau. But even if he is a white man (which I am not prepared to admit as fact, since all the ''evidence'' seems based on hearsay), my question is: so what? It's not like an author of his stature and reputation needs the helping hand of affirmative action to land a job.
