A case of malaria has been confirmed in Arkansas and is the first locally acquired case in the state in at least 40 years. The patient, who was not named, lives in Saline County and had not recently traveled out of the country. The case makes Arkansas the fourth state to report a locally acquired case of the disease this year, in another sign the disease may be gaining a foothold in the US for the first time in two decades.
