More than a dozen community groups have called on Rep. Bettie Cook Scott (D-Detroit) to apologize for a series of racial slurs sources say she used to describe her primary election opponent, Rep. Stephanie Chang (D-Detroit). Scott is alleged to have referred to Chang as "ching-chang" and "the ching-chong" to multiple voters outside polling precincts during last Tuesday's election. She's also said to have called one of Chang's campaign volunteers an “immigrant,” saying “you don’t belong here” and “I want you out of my country.”

Democrat Bettie Cook Scott stood outside the polling stations on Tuesday and urged voters not to cast a ballot for her Asian opponent. Scott told the voters, “Don’t vote for ching-chang!” and don’t vote for “ching-chong.”

Results from a poll released by ClickOnDetroit on Tuesday show Michigan voters support the legalization of recreational marijuana by a margin of 56 percent to 38 percent, which the local station pointed out is a finding that has remained consistent in the state for the past two years. A food service employee at Detroit’s Comerica Park was fired this week after footage of him spitting into a pizza went viral on Instagram.
