With many people working remotely, everybody should by now know how to behave when in a Zoom or Microsoft Teams meeting. Your camera picks up every move even when you think no one is watching, and your microphone can catch the faintest of sounds. Most people assume that muting their computer’s microphone gives them total privacy. That should be the case, but it’s not.Read on to find out how your microphone is sneakily still listening to everything you say. Here’s the backstoryResearchers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison discovered that your device’s microphone continues to listen even after hitting the mute switch.While...

University of South Florida Health-led team discovers that the compound fenchol has the same beneficial effect as gut-derived metabolites in reducing neurotoxic amyloid-beta in the brain. Fenchol, a natural compound abundant in some plants including basil, can help protect the brain against Alzheimer’s disease pathology, a preclinical study led by University of South Florida Health (USF Health) researchers suggests. The new study published on October 5, 2021, in the Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience, discovered a sensing mechanism associated with the gut microbiome that explains how fenchol reduces neurotoxicity in the Alzheimer’s brain. Emerging evidence indicates that short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs)–...

The Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) has adopted a new rule ahead of Thursday’s second and final presidential debate and will silence the microphone of the candidate who does not have the floor during the uninterrupted two-minute periods at the start of each segment. The Commission cited their prior announcement to consider “additional structure” to future debates following the first presidential debate with moderator Chris Wallace. The first debate saw several interruptions from both candidates and Wallace. While Joe Biden (D) set the tone by interrupting first, Wallace later stated that Trump bore the “primary responsibility” for what occurred during...

CNN's Jim Acosta just lost his hard pass White House credentials. This is after today's incident in which he would not allow a female White House aide to take the microphone from him when President Trump was done speaking to Acosta. He had to give his hard pass to a Secret Service officer. Acosta's message said "The US Secret Service just asked for my credential to enter the WH. As I told the officer, I don’t blame him. I know he’s just doing his job. (Sorry this video is not rightside up)" Source contains video of Jim Acosta giving credentials...

**SNIP** "We can’t hear you!” some in the crowd shouted, as Pelosi began her speech Monday night condemning Trump’s executive order limiting immigration and refugees from high-risk countries in the Middle East. "Is the sound working?” Pelosi asked, as some in the crowd complained that they couldn’t hear her. “Is someone going to deal with this? Staff? Sound people?” She then distracted the crowd by commenting on the moon.
  • Looking for an outdoor nature microphone

I am trying to set up a system for my bedridden and hard of hearing aunt so that she can hear her beloved chimes in her backyard. The chimes are heavy mothers. Has anyone set up a system in their backyard to hear birds and sounds of nature and piped it into their house? I ordered and tried a product called Nature's Window NW3 monitor. I sent it back as it had a defect and for $350 probably had about $50 worth of electronic parts. On the internet I found lots of microphones and naturist setups geared for recording purposes....

Great story I came across again today. Reminds me why Reagan is one of my heroes. How declaring “I’m paying for this microphone” helped Ronald Reagan win a key primary Ronald Reagan was the underdog. He had been narrowly edged out by George Bush in the Iowa caucuses a few weeks before. Now Bush, a former UN ambassador, CIA director, and Texas congressman, was the clear frontrunner for the 1980 Republican presidential nomination. In fact, Bush had publicly declared that “Big Mo” — momentum — was on his side. Reagan and his staff knew that if he lost in New...

Anyone who knows Sarah and Michele: They have a similar problem: They don't trust the microphone to do the work. When addressing a crowd--don't shout! Listen to Ronald Reagan: Even when speaking to a hugest crowd, Reagan never raised his voice. He always talked to the person at home, sitting six feet from the television. He knew that people don't want to hear shouting in their living room.

(CNN) -- U.S. President George W. Bush and British PM Tony Blair have laughed off the moment when their unguarded comments were broadcast to the world on a live microphone at the G8 summit in St. Petersburg. Asked about the microphone mishap during his final briefing of the summit, Blair quipped that it was "all about transparent government" -- smiling and tapping the microphone in front of him. Bush "sort of rolled his eyes and laughed" when told the comments had been audible and a copy had been made, said Press Secretary Tony Snow, according to The Associated Press. "Actually...

The Sunday talk show of president Chavez is back in the air after an interruption of a couple of months "for redesign". The show used to be an itinerant affair that lasted from 3 to 6 hours where Chavez occupied the front scene, only relieved on occasion by some video or some "guest" making some form of expose. Alo Presidente was of course a must see of the political class as most of the maneuvers of the regime were announced previously from its set. The new format? Well, the step to a formal TV show with Chavez as the host...

Never one to mess up a good story by sticking with the facts, the liberal media in Washington refuse to tell us much about the inner-workings of the Senate. Oh sure, they are quick to carp about anything they think may be a misstep by a Republican member. But that is about as deep as their news reports usually go. No one ever reports that few senators fully understand, or even read, any of the bills before voting. Nor are we often informed that an inordinate amount of each senator's time is spent seeing lobbyists and other campaign contributors, rather...

D/FW AIRPORT - A vintage microphone in a piece of checked luggage triggered a nearly three-hour security ordeal Thursday afternoon at Dallas/Fort Worth Airport. Security officials -- who believed the object could be a pipe bomb -- closed part of a terminal and evacuated passengers for the first time this year. An American Airlines passenger who owned the bag was detained and questioned by the FBI when his plane landed in Birmingham, Ala. "He told them, 'Hey, it's a microphone. I'm in a band,' " airport spokesman David Magaña said. Airport and safety officials say they took the proper cautionary...
