I have subscribed to NFL Sunday Ticket since 1995 and have cancelled my renewal for 2018. I haven't actually used it like I used to for the past few years. God put on my heart that football was an idol in my life. Being in Alaska the games come early and in the past I would skip morning services to watch games, and go to evening services only. I haven't done that for 5 years, I dvr the game(s) of interest and watch them at my leisure. Stopped watching all together mid-season of 2017 and just didn't miss it. It...

Ad revenue dipped 1.2% as lower ratings more than offset higher prices Advertising revenue from in-game NFL programming declined 1.2% to $2.42 billion during the 2017 regular season, according to Standard Media Index, as the league feels the impact of declining viewership. SMI’s figures include NFL advertising across NBC, CBS, FOX and ESPN, from Sept. 7 to Dec. 31. The price of 30-second spots increased 1.2% from $499,000 to $505,000, according to SMI. At the same time, the delivery of “make goods” grew from 21% to 23% of the units due to lower ratings. Media companies typically give advertisers make...
  • State Of The Union-SHOULD TRUMP CALL FOR A SUPER BOWL BOYCOTT?

It would serve them right. The NFL is really asking for it. He could just say he'll be playing golf. Go to a museum. No TV's around. It would give him an opportunity to question other sacred cows, like the need for a college degree. Reassess everything as the country becomes great again.
  • Ratings for NFL conference championships down 8 percent

More than 40 million people watched the NFL’s two preliminaries for the Super Bowl on Sunday, a drop of more than 8 percent compared to last year’s conference championship games. The Nielsen company said an average of 43.2 million people watched the games. While that’s down from the 47.1 million who watched the conference championships last year, it was a more heartening report than the NFL had gotten only a week earlier. This year’s divisional championship round had seen a 16 percent dip in audience size. […] After seeing viewership erosion all year, the NFL will be anxious to see...
  • Ref congratulates Tom Brady for conspiracy-theory gold

It wasn’t Tom Brady’s hand that set conspiracy theorists’ minds racing. After the Patriots’ come-from-behind, 24-20 triumph over the Jaguars in the AFC Championship on Sunday, an official walked over to the glove-less wonder and patted him on the back to get his attention. He then used the universal nice-job-man pat to the chest, congratulating the 40-year-old on clinching his eighth Super Bowl appearance. It was enough to gain notice of a few NFL players and enough to begin the complaints of every Patriots critic (meaning, every non-Patriots fan).

According to Sports Media Watch, all four games were down substantially in overnight ratings from the comparable window last January, and several of them hit their lowest mark in years. Saturday afternoon’s Falcons-Eagles game on NBC drew a 17.4 overnight rating, down 5 percent from last year and 12 percent from 2016. It was the lowest for the early Saturday time slot since 2009. The Patriots-Jaguars matchup Sunday night on CBS was the lowest-rated game of the weekend, with a 16.6 overnight. That was down 9 percent from last year and 18 percent from 2016 and was also the worst...

While national anthem protests have slowed around the NFL, it has still dominated national conversation throughout this season. So what if such protests — namely kneeling — were to surface at the Super Bowl? Fred Gaudelli, the executive producer of the Super Bowl, told reporters Tuesday night that the network would indeed capture any kneeling at the game. "It was a pretty big story in our country this fall,” Gaudelli said Tuesday. “The Super Bowl is a live event, just like ‘Sunday Night Football.’ When you’re covering a live event, you’re covering whats happening. “So if there are players that...
