I thought the biggest scandal to come from the shooting today would be the fact that the Pentagon didn’t run a full background check on this guy when he was re-hired as a contractor in July. All they did, which is apparently standard practice, was check to make sure his security clearance from 2007 was still intact. No interviews with family members, co-workers, or employers; if there had been, maybe someone would have tipped them to the fact of his mental problems. But no, that’s not the biggest scandal if this BBC report is right. This … can’t possibly be...

The Department of Homeland Security has made only a small dent in dealing with the millions of immigrants who have illegally overstayed their visas, despite the fact that several Sept. 11 hijackers were able to remain in the country by doing just that. The finding was one of many outlined in a new report this week by the Government Accountability Office measuring progress at the department created in the wake of the 2001 terror attacks.

In an example of the most extreme left-wing tactics, a website that supports illegal immigration has publicized the home address of the Director of the Illinois Minuteman Project, Rosanna Pulido. Apparently this website intends to try and harass Pulido at her home, a tactic that we recently saw from thug union members protesting in front of the private residence of an east coast banker and terrorizing his son. The website called South Side Chicago Anti-Racist Action is ostensibly an offshoot of a national group called Anti-Racist Action (ARA), a group originally dedicated in the 1980s to fighting neo-Nazis and white...

THE number of crimes involving knives on the streets of England and Wales has risen dramatically in the past year, with huge increases in their use during robberies, mugging and violent attacks on strangers. Attacks in which a knife was used during a mugging rose by 73 per cent while there was a 55 per cent increase in random attacks with knives on strangers. A report accompanying the figures from the British Crime Survey accuses John Reid, the Home Secretary, of presiding over an incoherent strategy to tackle the problem and of resorting to knee-jerk legislative responses. “Government and the...

What do New Jersey, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, South Dakota, West Virginia and seven other states have in common? Their legislatures have been lobbied by a million dollar program to pass a crazy law. This all started a few months back when news reports from coast to coast were attempting to describe a gizmo invented by Dean Kamen code named “IT” or “Ginger.” Later we learned that the thing was to be called “Segway” and was a type of "human transporter" they say will change how Americans get around.(1) The consumer model of the Segway weighs in at...
