The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette on Friday filed a complaint seeking a court injunction to stop union members from trespassing at a South Side newspaper distribution center, two days after asking the court to force Mayor Ed Gainey and police officials to uphold the state’s trespassing law. Since a strike by the unions began in October, the complaint said the Gateway View Plaza depot on West Carson Street has been the scene of confrontations between striking Post-Gazette union members and independent contractors, examples of which were detailed with pictures of punctured tires and broken car and door windows in the complaint. The...

"...Finally, let’s talk about one of the most important concerns in this region — energy. Under Mr. Trump the United States achieved energy independence for the first time in the lifetimes of most of us. Where would Western Pennsylvania be without the Shell Petrochemical Complex (the “cracker plant”)?..."

Several groups that often are at odds over environmental rules are on the same side when it comes to easing methane regulations at oil and gas sites. The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection joined major oil and gas companies, environmental groups and lawmakers from both parties last week in urging the Trump administration not to go through with its proposal to eliminate methane control requirements from well sites and pipelines across the country. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is proposing to roll back rules adopted in 2016 that require companies to identify and stop methane leaks from new and modified...

After weeks of struggling with his editors over unpublished anti-Trump cartoons, longtime Pittsburgh Post-Gazette editorial cartoonist Rob Rogers announced that he had been fired from the paper Thursday. A series of six spiked cartoons in late May and early June led to Rogers' extended absence from the Post-Gazette's editorial page and launched him into the national spotlight, including the Washington Post and an interview on CNN . Overall, Columbia Journalism Review said 19 of Rogers's cartoons or pre-publication ideas were shot down or left unpublished since March; he posted several of the spiked cartoons on his own Twitter feed earlier...

The family of a Vietnam veteran says they are upset after they feel their loved one is being disrespected. The Vietnam War was controversial, and a lot of the soldiers were met with disgust when they returned to American soil. David Ryan was one of those veterans. Ryan’s daughter says when he returned back to the United States, a man called him a murderer and a ‘baby killer.’ Those words stuck with her father for the rest of his life. In his obituary, Ryan wanted to clear the air and put to rest those hurtful words from decades ago. However,...
  • Stories Not Told - (how the media never covers consequences of its own fallacious reporting)

As distrust of the press grows, news articles are relentlessly scrutinized for bias, but almost no one is focusing on stories that are simply ignored. For instance, a May 18 report in the Afghan newspaper Kabul Weekly said the riots that killed 17 people were not about disrespect for the Koran in American detainment camps--they were a show of force by the Taliban and another fundamentalist group, Hezb-e Eslami. "These demonstrations were organized by the Taliban and their supporters, and only some naive people joined the protesters," the newspaper said. The BBC picked up the story on May 22, but...
