  • Posting guidelines?

I'm having trouble finding any FR posting guidelines showing which sites may be excerpted, which are link-only and so on. I would have thought adding a link to that information on the page that appears when you hit "Post" would be a no-brainer, but I sure don't see anything like that. I've seen people referencing such guidelines quite a bit, but I've never found 'em.

Why do so few people bother to cleanly post a story anymore here on Free Republic? Not to pick on anyone in particular but I see this type of posting all the time and it drives me crazy. Here are but a couple of examples: "Gerald Celente Disses Roubini After Moving 100% Into Gold Gus Lubin Aug. 30, 2011, 6:21 AM Image: KWN Notorious trend forecaster Gerald Celente has been fairly accurate of late, predicting a double dip and revolutions around the world." In reading the summary why must the reader be tormented by the extraneous, unnecessary and worthless text:...

I’m writing this to encourage others to make the effort to amplify their influence like I do. Ever since I began contributing online, I’d made a conscious decision to establish free accounts at media websites from which original articles were sourced so I could cut and paste some of my more carefully constructed comments to many different sites. By doing this, I feel I can increase my own tiny influence just a little bit more. I would encourage everyone to consider doing the same. It takes just a couple of minutes to sign up on most media websites, and most...

It's time for a new HTML reference so you can make your posts look cool. HTML means Hyper Text Markup Language. It's a set of simple commands used to format the text of your posts, add images, or links, or change the appearance. URL is Uniform Resource Locator. It's the name of the page or the picture that you see, the www.http:// stuff. You'll need to use the URL to make links and post pictures. Quotation Marks Quotes have to be used around the URLs for web pages and images on Free Republic. Some systems do not require this. Ours...

Articles about Twitter: Since the popular social media tool Twitter debuted in March 2006 as a free, social-networking, microblogging Internet service via which users send text updates, known as tweets, Twitter has grown into a communication phenomenon. Technically speaking, Twitter is a microblogging system that is a real-time short messaging service that works over multiple networks and devices. It's a device agnostic message routing system with some social networking features. By accepting messages from sms, web, mobile web, instant message, or third party API projects, tweets can be sent via mobile texting, instant message, or the web. How does it...

Hey all. I am relatively new to posting at Free Republic although I have donated and read posts for years. Ironically I have posted to blogs and all other types of groups but I have not had much luck getting my posts published on FR. Is there some guidance I can follow that will help me better place my posts? I can't find a Q&A or other guide. For example, if you a referencing a news article should you post it only under News or under other topic headings as well. Finally, do all the posts end up in the...

It appears that I post something --I make sure to INCLUDE its source...it is NOT offensive or obscene--and you immediately remove iit....( in this case a portion of a thread i found illuminating from Hillaryclintonforum.net) this happens constantly....and is very frustrating....the "free" in free republic does not appear to hold---perhaps a clarification of your increasingly rigid rules would help? The parameters are so narrow some good content is being unilaterally struck....PLEASE EXPLAIN so that i can contribute in a way that allows my points to be seen. Thank you.

Jim Robinson has created and maintains a huge treasure trove of news and information here at FreeRepublic.com. He gladly shares it with us Freepers and the rest of the world (a.k.a. - lurkers). And thanks to Jim and staff, FreeRepublic has a fantastic search engine (far surpassing Google), IMHO, due to the plethora of relevant news and information from around the world posted by us Freepers. For lack of a better description, I would classify FreeRepublic as a huge historical news and information database thanks to all of the postings and comments of Freepers (and a few disrupters - ZOT!!)....

I don't post a lot of vanities, but today, I just had to rant. Someone posted an article this morning and entered the SOURCE URL where the SOURCE should have been. No big deal? Well, it is to me, at least on my computer. When someone does that it totally screws up the INDEX page, and instead of seeing a list of articles AND the material in the sidebars, all I get to see is (depending on how long the url is) a portion of the header and none of the sidebar. It makes it impossible to read Free Republic....

Ladies and gents, I have a problem. I've posted here for years, and I've let it slide until now. I should have asked these questions before, but I was too lazy/indifferent to bother. Anyway, it's gotten to the point where I can't take it anymore. I can't post pictures. I can't italicize the text that I want to respond to. I can't post links. I can't post text in different colors or fonts. I've tried tinkering with the settings on Free Republic. I've tried tinkering with my web browser. Can someone out there give me an idiot-proof explaination of what...

Onward Christian Straw Men by: Malcolm A. Kline, December 04, 2007 The myth of marauding Christian street gangs has really taken hold among academic elites who pride themselves on demythologizing myths. When I recently wrote about the concerted effort in academic circles to banish doubters of Darwin’s theory of evolution from faculties everywhere, a poster on Free Republic offered this reminiscence:
