While some bemoan Punch and Judy politics the real issue tearing apart the country aren’t the stark ideological differences between Democrats and Republicans, conservatives and liberals, but rather the divide between those who want enforcement of federal immigration law and those who defy and obstruct the enforcers. This is an issue — and a debate — that has been percolating for years, though it arguably only came into full focus with President Donald J. Trump’s signature campaign promise to “build the wall.” In time, building a wall along the border of the United States and Mexico became a euphemism for...

When I was a teacher, I learned early the importance of establishing clear rules and expectations in the classroom. Students needed to know the code of conduct going in, and they also needed to know the consequences which would follow if they did not follow through. One of the biggest challenges new teachers face is discipline, though, even after laying down the rules and the consequences. All the talk in the world means nothing if teachers don’t follow through. They lose control of the classroom.  The same thing is happening at the national level. It’s astonishing how slow the wheels...

Yesterday John talked about the ICE response to Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf tipping off the illegal aliens in her community to an impending immigration enforcement sweep. A request has been made to have the Department of Justice look into this act of lawbreaking and determine if some form of charges would be appropriate. The Deputy Director of ICE has since gone on to suggest some specifics. ICE Deputy Director Thomas D. Homan, however, had a different idea of what she was trying to do, saying on Tuesday that he believed some of the 864 “criminal aliens” that still remained at...

In the aftermath of the passage of legislation aimed at limiting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids in California, the state has released rules employers must follow or risk fines of up to $10,000 per offense. The Immigrant Worker Protection Act prohibits employers from voluntarily granting ICE agents access to private areas of worksites or to employee records. If ICE agents have a judicial warrant or subpoena for the records, however, the state law allows employers to grant them access, according to guidelines released by California Attorney General Xavier Becerra. Under the new state law, employers must also notify employees...

Crazy lady running for California Senate puts up huge "DISOBEY TRUMP" billboard. Do these Democrats really wonder why they get called treasonous? Treason is pretty much their main platform right now. When the main TP you have is 'resist' with no clear solutions, you have lost

Apparently having grown tired of waiting for the federal government to “do something” about immigration reform, some Colorado lawmakers have come up with an alternate solution. Some Democrats in the state legislature have a plan which would allow the state to issue their own “purple cards” (a state-level version of a green card), offering legal status to well-behaved illegal aliens. Right up front, I’ll just say that I hope they pass this law because watching the legal challenges and fallout should be either informative or hilarious. (CBS Denver) Colorado would have its own version of a “green card” under legislation...

The U.S. is still on schedule to meet its obligations under the Paris Climate Agreement despite its decision to pull out of the accord, Gore said Thursday"Several governors of our largest states, hundreds of cities and thousands of U.S. businesses are now ensuring that the U.S. will not only meet but exceed the commitments it made under the Paris Agreement," Gore, who was speaking on a panel at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, said Thursday. Under the agreement, reached at the end of 2015, world leaders committed to making sure global warming stays "well below" two degrees Celsius...

New York Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Friday that a coalition of East Coast states will sue the federal government over the Trump-signed tax overhaul, in the latest bid to undermine the law that Republicans have cheered. The states -- New York, New Jersey and Connecticut -- appear to be taking aim at a provision that limits residents' state and local tax deduction (SALT) to $10,000. While the law contains sweeping tax rate cuts for businesses and individuals, taxpayers in high-tax states like those in the Northeast are expected to take a hit from the SALT change. Cuomo called it...

California Attorney General Xavier Becerra warned employers Thursday of legal repercussions if they assist federal immigration officials in an impending crackdown in the sanctuary state, The Sacramento Bee reported.Under a new state law – the Immigration Worker Protection Act – employers and businesses could face fines of up to $10,000 if they provide employee information to U.S. Immigration Customs, Becerra said.If employers “start giving up information about their employees or access to their employees in ways that contradict our new California laws, they subject themselves to actions by my office. We will prosecute those who violate the law,” he said at...

Starting with the first day of 2018, California officially became US’s first and largest sanctuary state, as a brand-new sweeping immigration law started producing effects on Monday, January 1st. The new law dubbed SB54 passed through the state’s legislature back in September. After DEM Governor Jerry Moonbeam Brown signed it into law in October, we can safely presume that California just took one step closer to secession from the Union, and we are not mincing words here. The problem with SB54 is that California’s police will no longer be allowed to participate in federal immigration enforcement actions, nor to ask...

Editorial Sanctuary state policies come at a cost Consistent with campaign promises, the first year of Trump’s presidency saw a noticeable uptick in immigration enforcement. Unfortunately, much of it was against noncriminal undocumented immigrants. According to data released by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency last month, both arrests and deportations of undocumented immigrants without a criminal conviction increased significantly from prior years. Of the 143,470 administrative arrests made in fiscal year 2017, more than one in four of those arrested did not have a criminal conviction, with 10.8 percent not having any criminal record at all. Notably, “at-large”...

President Trump's pick to run Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on Tuesday called for a crackdown on so-called sanctuary cities, saying politicians who help run them should be charged with crimes. In an interview with Fox News' Neil Cavuto, ICE Acting Director Thomas Homan said the Department of Justice needs "to file charges against the sanctuary cities" and "hold back their funding." Homan, who was announced in December as President Trump's pick to permanently run the agency, went on to say that politicians enforcing sanctuary city policies need to be held "personally accountable." "We gotta take [sanctuary cities] to court,...

SPRINGFIELD -- Gov. Bruce Rauner plans to sign into law on Monday both an automatic voter registration and an immigration measure that would limit the role of local law enforcement in federal efforts -- a move that may spark some backlash among his conservative base. The immigration legislation would prohibit police in Illinois from detaining or arresting a person based on their immigration status or on federal immigration detainer.

"The election of Donald Trump is really a kind of class rebellion against people like us, educated professionals who live in cities, who have cosmopolitan views about things," Zakaria said. [snip]"He [Trump} knew that the election of a black president had stirred a kind of ugly racial animus. A small subset but he knew how to get them" Zakaria said.

http://www.courthousenews.com/california-closer-creating-sanctuary-state/ California Closer to Creating Sanctuary State Posted by DEREK FLEMING SACRAMENTO, Calif. (CN) – Over objections from sheriffs’ unions and the California Police Chiefs Association, the California Assembly Judiciary Committee took a step forward in making the Golden State a sanctuary for undocumented immigrants. State Senate President Pro Tem Kevin De Leon, D-Los Angeles, said his measure, Senate Bill 54 or the “California Values Act,” is intended to prevent state and local law enforcement from cooperating with what he calls the “Trump Deportation Machine.” Opponents call it a “sanctuary state measure” that goes against federal immigration law and obstructs...

HuffPost writer Jesse Benn tweeted Wednesday that violent resistance must be organized to work. The tweet came after a gunman opened fire on Republican lawmakers early Wednesday morning. The gunman shot five people: House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R., La.), two Capitol Police officers, a congressional aide, and a lobbyist. The hospital treating some of the victims released a statement that said Scalise was still in critical condition. The gunman was shot and taken to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Benn wrote that violent resistance needed to be organized and that individual acts of resistance were...

WHEN former President Barack Obama said he was “heartened” by anti-Trump protests, he was sending a message of approval to his troops. Troops? Yes, Obama has an army of agitators — numbering more than 30,000 — who will fight his Republican successor at every turn of his historic presidency. And Obama will command them from a bunker less than two kilometres from the White House. In what’s shaping up to be a highly unusual post-presidency, Obama isn’t just staying behind in Washington. He’s working behind the scenes to set up what will effectively be a shadow government to not only...
