A truck tire hits a flagged wire, a roadside bomb explodes, a handsome private with shredded leg screams in agony. In the bloody chaos of the moment, his soldier buddies panic. One pukes. Stop the cameras! Sir! "People don't act like that when an i.e.d. (improvised explosive device) goes off. They make us look like idiots. We're not idiots!" said a first lieutenant previewing "Over There," the new TV series from Steven Bochco ("NYPD Blue," "Hill Street Blues") that debuts tomorrow night on FX cable network. It's set in Iraq, hyped as "true to life" by producers and hailed by...

Dixie Chicks' manager Simon Renshaw has told radio stations currently boycotting the group's music that the uproar has been ginned up by the Web site FreeRepublic.com, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported Tuesday. FreeRepublic has nicknamed the group "The Blixie Chicks," after Saddam-friendly U.N. weapons inspector Hans Blix. Several posters to the cyber-forum have...

This Sunday, the annual Academy Awards will be held in Tinseltown. As our nation wages a just and righteous war in the name of human freedom and dignity, as heroic men and women who represent our nation's finest risk their lives to protect the world from tyranny and terrorist blackmail, overgrown adolescents with low self-esteem will bask in the adulation of each other in a pathetic attempt to pretend to be relevant and call attention to themselves. While Jacques Chirac continues to strut and preen in Paris, Hollywood stars will give him a run for his money in seeing just...

The media is reporting that "millions of people" were protesting a war in Iraq. I'll bring it more local....there were about 100,000 people protesting in New York. New York is a city of about 8 million people. There were about 100,000 protestors. Many of them don't even live in New York, but we'll use 100,000 as the number. I did the math, and out of 8 million people, 1.25 percent of the people were there. This is the same all around the rest of the world....only a SMALL PERCENTAGE of the world protested. That means only a small percentage support...

'Human shields' head for Iraq Paul HarrisSunday December 29, 2002The Observer A convoy of anti-war activists, likely to include dozens of British volunteers, will leave London next month to act as human shields protecting strategic sites in Iraq. The convoy to Baghdad is being organised by former US marine Kenneth Nichols, who served in the first Gulf war and won a combat medal but has now become a vociferous opponent of another Gulf conflict. British protesters are also heading for the country in advance of any Anglo-American bombing. Nichols, 33, aims to gather scores of volunteers together in London and...

About a hundred celebrities, plus Mike Farrell, have formed a group called "Artists United to Win Without War," and signed a letter to President Bush urging him to knock off the schoolyard bully rhetoric against Iraq. Unbeknownst to them, their petition has condemned us to war. A quick glance at the names on the petition shows some we haven't seen in quite a long time. There's Kent McCord, star of the '70s cop drama "Adam-12," who has subsequently appeared in ... reruns of "Adam-12." Ken Howard, who played a basketball coach on the late '70s drama "The White Shadow." Melissa...
