Three people have been arrested and charged in connection with the death of a pregnant Chicago woman who was strangled before her baby was cut from her womb, authorities announced Thursday. The older woman’s boyfriend, 40-year-old Piotr Bobak is charged with concealing a death by homicide, police said. Desiree Figueroa, who pretended Ochoa-Lopez's baby was hers, admitted to helping her mother strangle the woman with a coaxial cable, police said. Ochoa-Lopez’s body was found early Wednesday behind the house, more than three weeks after she was last seen leaving her high school on April 23. That same day, paramedics were...

Memorial Day should be observed by honoring the men and women in the military who have fallen for America. New York Magazine has found another way of observing the Memorial Day Weekend while at the same time pushing a certain political agenda. They have invaded the privacy of World War II servicemen and their families by publishing nude photographs of them: 10 Intimate Photographs of World War II Soldiers in the Buff. Writer Christopher Bonanos can barely contain his excitement over the photos as he practically drools over himself while eagerly pushing a socio/political agenda at a time when those...

JERUSALEM – In a bombshell admission that has until now gone unreported, Martin Dempsey, chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff, conceded that highly trained Special Forces were stationed just a few hours away from Benghazi on the night of the attacks but were not told to deploy to Libya. In comments that may warrant further investigation, Dempsey stated at a Senate hearing Wednesday that on the night of the Sept. 11, 2012, attack, command of the Special Forces – known as C-110, or the EUCOM CIF – was transferred from the military’s European command to AFRICOM, or the United States...
  • Paul Backers Aided Disruption of Ryan’s Speech (Code Pink - Ron Paul alliance)

The women’s antiwar group CodePink was behind the disruption of Representative Paul D. Ryan’s speech on Wednesday night, but it was in part a product of the Romney campaign’s continuing dispute with Ron Paul supporters. “An angry Ron Paul person was like, here, take my pass,” said Laura Mills, the 21-year-old CodePink intern who was escorted out of the Tampa Bay Times Forum after interrupting Mr. Paul’s speech. Ms. Mills and a more seasoned activist, Ann Wright, were just waiting for Mr. Ryan to say something about health care. When he did, they yelled, “Health care, not warfare” and “My...

U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Sam Burbank, who'd recently returned from his third tour in Iraq, was shocked Tuesday to learn that while his family was living at Fort Hood, two squatters had moved into his Liberty County home and were selling his possessions at a garage sale. "It devastated us," said his wife, Hollie Burbank. "We got married in that house. It's been in my family for three generations." Liberty County sheriff's spokesman Capt. Rex Evans, a veteran himself, was upset that anyone would exploit a soldier and his family who were already making personal sacrifices to protect this country's...

Amid vulgar heckling brought on by his own reckless behavior and smug jokes, Weiner told reporters at his three-ring press conference that there is “no higher honor in a democracy” than to be an elected representative. But like legions of entrenched swamp creatures, he’s lost sight of the simple proposition that serving in Congress should remain a temporary calling, not a lifelong career. Last year, the now-jobless Weiner joked on former roommate Jon Stewart’s cable comedy show that he didn’t “have a lot of marketable skills.” It’s one of Weiner’s rare truthful utterances over the past year. A protégé of...

This rural community isn't used to making headlines, especially the kind it's had lately. First, there was the tornado, a vicious twister that killed two people, wrecked a school and destroyed dozens of homes less than two months ago. And now this, perhaps the worst case of child abuse ever in these parts - one that speaks volumes about what can hide behind closed doors. On April 28, deputies checking a home for stolen goods discovered a naked, starving little girl inside a filthy, makeshift cage. Under a shed nearby, they found the remains of a baby. SNIP Until then,...

Palin Derangement Syndrome was on full display Monday evening when HLN's Joy Behar invited the Atlantic's Andrew Sullivan on to trash the former Governor of Alaska. At issue fully fifteen months after Sarah Palin was thrust into the limelight as John McCain's running mate was whether or not Trig is actually her son. Behar began the segment: "Sarah Palin may have been coy on the Oprah Show about a possible White House run in 2012. But new poll numbers show she`s a contender. Oy." This evoked laughter from crew members on the set. Behar then introduced her guest, and after...

MUMBAI: At first, waiter Joseph Joy Pulithara thought the blasts were rows of liquor bottles exploding for some reason behind the Mumbai hotel's sleek bar. Running to the scene, he found a woman screaming, and a young man spraying gunfire. The gunman was a member of a team that was well-armed, well-prepared and had just begun a two-day siege that would shut down India's financial and entertainment capital, leave more than 150 people dead and 370 injured, and turn the city's ritzy seaside district into a scene of horror.

A MAN whose five-year-old daughter was stolen from her bed and raped by a teenage pedophile has warned the criminal he "will be waiting" upon his release. The father, who cannot be identified, today vowed to do "whatever it takes" to keep Samuel Paul Healey behind bars "where he belongs". "I have no emotion for that rock spider, he deserves everything he gets and more," he said outside court. "Should he be afraid of me? I think he should be more afraid of the people he's inside with." The Supreme Court ordered Healey, 23, serve 13 years jail, with a...

Gaza's streets filled with joyous crowds of thousands on Thursday evening following the terror attack at a Jerusalem rabbinical seminary in which eight people were killed. In mosques in Gaza City and northern Gaza, many residents went to perform the prayers of thanksgiving. Armed men fired in the air in celebration and others passed out sweets to passersby. Hamas stopped just short of claiming responsibility but issued a statement saying the group "blesses the (Jerusalem) operation. It will not be the last,'' Hamas said in a statement. An Islamic Jihad spokesman Abu Ahmed told Ynet the blame for the attack...

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - White House spokesman Tony Snow could not resist a good-natured jab at actress Jane Fonda for appearing at an anti-Iraq war protest nearly 35 years after she earned the nickname "Hanoi Jane" for protesting Vietnam. "You know, I mean, it's nice to see Jane Fonda in front of a camera again," Snow told reporters when asked about the march on Saturday. He did not elaborate. Fonda, 69, joined tens of thousands of anti-war protest on the National Mall in Washington. In 1972, she made waves by appearing before the cameras as she sat on a North Vietnamese...

  • Court Examines Rendell's Role In 1998 Protester Beatings

Philadelphia - A special three-judge panel of the Third Circuit Court of Appeals convened Wednesday to hear arguments on whether a Federal Civil Rights suit may proceed against Gov. Ed Rendell and overturn a 2003 lower court ruling that there was insufficient evidence. Rendell is charged with conspiring to suppress the First Amendment rights of protesters by having Teamsters Local 115 beat them while they demonstrated outside Philadelphia's City Hall during a Democratic fundraiser featuring President Bill Clinton. Rendell, who was mayor of Philadelphia at the time, admitted in a deposition following the Oct. 2, 1998 beatings to personally inviting Teamsters Local 115 Secretary-Treasurer John Morris and instructing the union to "drown-out" the Clinton protesters. "I specifically said I didn't want any interaction with the demonstrators. I wanted this to be extremely peaceful and extremely positive," Rendell also claimed in the deposition, which was taken two years after the fact. Morris was caught on video by local media placing a fedora over protester Don Adams' head, signaling the Teamsters to knock him to the ground and assault him. Adams was treated at a nearby hospital for a concussion, lacerations and multiple bruises. His sister, Teri, sustained minor injuries. Testimony from Morris' chief of staff revealed that, after the beatings, Rendell called Morris about the Teamsters who participated in the attack and said, "nothing is going to happen to these guys," and "I know how these things go." He then suggested that Morris and the Teamsters file a criminal complaint against Adams, which they did two days later on Oct. 4, 1998, alleging that he struck a woman in their group. Even though there was no police reports supporting the Teamster's claim, the incident was caught on video, and the District Attorney's Office pursued trial against Adams, who filed suit against the Teamsters and Rendell several months later. At one point, the Teamsters offered to drop their charges against him if he dropped his case. During that time, they launched a media campaign and accused Adams of being a woman-beater. Adams rejected the deal and was found not guilty on July 8, 1999. Five teamsters then pled guilty to various charges of assault and were granted probation, and Morris died in 2001. Arguments surrounding Rendell's involvement center not on how convincing the evidence is, but whether his interaction with Morris after the fact - consoling the Teamsters and advising them to sue Adams - can be used as evidence to support the charge of conspiracy. The Third Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in United States vs. Smith in 2002 that concerted actions to conceal unlawful behavior are relevant to a finding of conspiracy. The Supreme Court reached a similar conclusion in United States vs. Brodie last year. However, Philadelphia Law Department attorney Jane Lovitch Istvan, who represents Rendell, argued in brief, "The alleged conversation in this case ... contained no evidence of attempted concealment, nor is there a pattern of other alleged attempts to conceal." "I think he might have a case," Circuit Judge Restani said during oral arguments surrounding Adams' claim. The three circuit judges were appointed to hear the case from outside the Third Circuit Court's jurisdiction after a motion asking the entire Circuit to recuse itself was granted. This recusal was issued due to the fact that Rendell's wife, Judge Marjorie Rendell, sits on the Third Circuit Court of Appeals.

A Montgomery police officer remains in critical condition at Montgomery's Jackson Hospital after he was shot while making a traffic stop in the 1800 block of North Decatur Street around 12:45pm on Thursday. As of late Thurday night, the mayor told WSFA 12 the officer is in "grave condition." Mayor Bobby Bright, who says he's been in emergency room with the officer, says the officer has responded to some voice communication by blinking his eyes, but, "If he makes it through the night we'll all be lucky." The officer's family is now with him. During WSFA 12 News at 6:00,...
