The Pentagon is seeking to recover decade-old reenlistment bonuses paid to thousands of California Army National Guard soldiers to go fight in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Los Angeles Times reported Saturday. WASHINGTON – Federal inmates made thousands of defective combat helmets for the U.S. military at a prison facility that was rife with problems, including the use of degraded armor and the submission of preselected helmets for inspection to make sure they would be approved, according to a newly released investigative report. According to a Fort Hood statement, a Light Medium Tactical Vehicle overturned at about 11:30 a.m. at the Owl Creek Tactical low-water crossing and East Range Road. The Army's active force has shrunk to its lowest level since before World War II, Army Times reported Saturday. According to the military's headcount by the Defense Manpower Data Center, nearly 2,600 soldiers left active duty in March without being replaced, the news outlet reports, adding that during the past year, the size of the active forced has been reduced by 16,548 soldiers. At the end of March, there were 479,172 active-duty soldiers – 154 fewer than when the Army halted its post-Cold War drawdown in 1999, the smallest force since the 1940 count of 269,023 soldiers, Army Times reports.

Soldiers are livid after being told to remove their combat patches in an attempt to be “welcoming” to new recruits. It’s an insane move that goes against the unofficial combat patch creed: “You earn it. You keep it. You wear it.” But that’s apparently the policy now for Fort Carson’s 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team. Soldiers are told to strip their uniforms bare to the bone, only showing the name, rank, American Flag, U.S. Army tape and the 4th Infantry Division insignia, the Army Times is reporting.
