  • Trump rules out legal status for undocumented immigrants

Donald Trump on Thursday ruled out supporting a pathway to legal status for undocumented immigrants, but declined to say if he still supports deporting everyone in the U.S. illegally. "There's no path to legalization unless they leave the country," Trump told CNN's Anderson Cooper following an event in Manchester, N.H.
  • Super Monday Trump Trashing

The volume and extent of the Trump trashing today, the eve of Super Tuesday, has been beyond over the top. I perused the various networks, CNN, FOX and all the usual suspects including the print media, WaPO, NYT and web sites such as HuffPo. They are pulling out all the stops and saying as many negative things as they can about Trump. It hit me late in the afternoon that the day seemed like one big paid political ad from the MSM, including FOX. Some of the people actually looked like they were going to blow a gasket. Watched Megyn...
  • Cruz: I’d Look For and Deport All Illegal Immigrants, Rubio and Trump Would Allow Citizenship

Republican presidential candidate Texas Senator Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said he would seek out and deport all the illegal immigrants in the US and that both fellow candidates Donald Trump and Florida Senator Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL)“would allow those 12 million people to become US citizens” on Monday’s “The O’Reilly Factor” on the Fox News Channel. Cruz began by stating [relevant remarks begin around 2:30] that the law should be enforced, and illegal immigrants in the US should be deported. When asked if he would “go look for them” Cruz responded, “Bill, of course you would. That’s what ICE exists...
  • Ted Cruz: Unlike Donald Trump, I won’t let deported illegals back in to become citizens

The key bit is where Cruz says of Trump, “look, there’s a difference. He’s advocated allowing folks to come back in and become citizens. I oppose that.” Trump has indeed said he’d let the “good” illegals come back in after they’ve been deported; lots of border hawks, me included, have flagged that as evidence that Trump’s not as opposed to forms of amnesty as he seems. Until now, though, none of the other top-tier candidates have had the guts to make that point against him. He can let Trump’s shots at his faith go because he has loads more credibility...
  • Cruz is far tougher on illegal aliens than Trump, who supports “touchback” amnesty

In the 2016 GOP primaries, Donald Trump has positioned himself as a hardliner on immigration. The general consensus is that no one is tougher on illegal aliens than Donald Trump. But is that actually the case? While Trump would work diligently to deport all illegal immigrants-he has even proposed creating a “deportation force”-most would be surprised to learn that he would welcome the non-violent, “good” ones back in on an expedited basis. An expedited basis means line-cutting, and line-cutting means amnesty. Trump’s specific plan-deportation before amnesty-is known as “touchback” amnesty, which was first proposed in 2007 by some members of...
  • Trump’s Deportation Proposal Isn’t Nazism, It’s A Senate Proposal Called ‘Touchback’

Donald Trump is being accused, along with the entire Republican Party, of being a NAZI who wants to round people up and send them back to their native countries in box cars when all he is doing is promoting a proposal seriously considered by the Senate in 2007. Hillary Clinton equated Republicans with NAZIs Friday. Presidential candidate Clinton, who is facing a possible indictment for violating the Espionage Act, thinks if you want borders and have concerns about illegal immigration then you are a NAZI putting people in box cars. No candidate has proposed putting immigrants in box cars. Trump’s...
  • Republicans look to loosen penalties on illegal immigrants

Republican Rep. Raul Labrador on Thursday offered a potential immigration deal to the White House, saying the GOP would agree to loosen penalties on illegal immigrants if President Obama would agree to increase visas for foreigners who work in high-tech fields. Mr. Labrador suggested dropping the penalty period that bars illegal immigrants from reapplying to enter the U.S. legally after being deported, a period that now lasts for between three and 10 years, depending on how long they had first remained in the country illegally.

FREELAND – The founder of a Hazleton-based anti-illegal immigration group left for Iowa on Wednesday to join other activists to discredit GOP presidential contender Mike Huckabee before the Iowa caucus. “We’re going to expose to Iowa voters that Mike Huckabee, who is currently leading in the Iowa polls, is … a fraud, and his record speaks volumes. He does not care about immigration reform, and basically, we need to go out there and get the word out,” Dan Smeriglio, president and founder of Voice of the People USA, said Wednesday at a press conference at the Veterans of Foreign Wars...

As the Senate is mulling the details of a compromise immigration bill hammered together by the odd couple of Sens. Edward Kennedy and Jon Kyl, and as members of Congress hear from their constituents over the Memorial Day recess, it may be worthwhile to put the issue in historical context. For most of our history, the United States had no restrictions on immigration at all. I am told that my Canadian-born grandfather was a "nickel immigrant": He took the five-cent ferry from Windsor, Ontario, north to Detroit roundabout 1896. This situation resulted from America's strong demand for labor, coupled with...
