Texas Tech University has joined other U.S. colleges in offering a workshop to help people “transitioning” to the opposite sex to sound more like their target gender. The program offers transgender individuals the chance to “work on vocal presentation” with coaching by professional speech pathologists who help them develop the correct pitch and voice qualities that fit with their new gender identities. LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Lubbock police confirm that a Texas Tech police officer has been shot and killed at Texas Tech Police Headquarters. It happened around 7:45 p.m. on Monday night at the Texas Tech Police building at 413 Flint Avenue. The suspect, identified as 19-year-old freshman Hollis A. Daniels, was taken into custody at 9:28 p.m. according to officials with the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office. He was located near Jones AT&T Stadium. Students from the Texas Tech University Black Students Association (@TTUBSA) reportedly tweeted a hate-filled message on the day before five Dallas-area police officers were ambushed by a lone gunman. The tweet was quickly taken down following strong community reactions. The tweet sent out by @TTUBSA stated, “All lives don’t matter [sic]… While lives don’t mater… Blue lives don’t matter… #BlackLivesMatter.” Following negative responses from the community, the tweet was taken down and the account was closed. The account has since re-opened with a single tweet apologizing for the previous tweet.
