Some University of Oklahoma students in the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity were videorecorded singing (as best I and others can tell), There will never be a nigger at SAE There will never be a nigger at SAE You can hang him from a tree But he’ll never sign with me There will never be a nigger at SAE University of Oklahoma president David Boren said, “If I’m allowed to, these students will face suspension or expulsion.” [UPDATE: The president has indeed expelled two of the students.] But he is not, I think, allowed to do that.

This university has a strong liberal presence. You might remember that The Insurgent student newspaper at the U of O (in Eugene, 40 minutes away) printed pornographic drawing of Jesus Christ about a year ago. This was lauded by some here at OSU. EUGENE -- “Major” recruiting violations by a University of Oregon assistant football coach in January 2003 led to the National Collegiate Athletics Association imposing a two-year probation on the football program. The NCAA, collegiate sports highest governing authority, announced Wednesday it was imposing the probation on the UO football program after determining the unnamed assistant coach had “impermissible” contact with an unidentified recruit from a junior college in January 2003. Iraqi scholars study at UO (Eugene-AP) -- Six Iraqi scholars are attending the University of Oregon this year as part of the first group of Fulbright scholars from Iraq since 1990, when Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait. The Fulbright program has brought international students to the United States and sent Americans abroad for nearly 60 years to increase understanding between countries. Bill Clinton will be visiting an old haunt when he returns to McArthur Court for a Halloween "get out the vote" rally. The former president will be the featured guest at Thursday's noon gathering, a fund-raiser for U.S. Senate candidate Bill Bradbury.
