With the race for governor hanging in the balance, Milwaukee County Clerk George Christenson said his office still had more than 45,000 uncounted ballots shortly after midnight Wednesday. Christenson said his office had just received 7,800 ballots from Wauwatosa, which were delayed because of a problem with a computer modem. Officials were reconciling those numbers and would soon release the totals. Christenson said he was still waiting to receive 45,000 outstanding absentee ballots from the City of Milwaukee. Milwaukee city officials put the figure even higher, saying the outstanding votes total 47,000. That amount includes 36,000 in-person absentee ballots and...

What's up with Charlie Skyes? He has been surly and gloomy since Donald Trump won the GOP nomination and the presidency in 2016. Is his lack of enthusiasm hurting Scott Walker in Wisconsin, especially conservative fortress Waukesha? What's going on over there? My friend lives in Waukesha and is worried about some guy Evers in the polls against Walker.

Hah-Hah! Former President Obama was in Milwaukee, Wisconsin Friday and he couldn’t fill a high school gymnasium. But this didn’t stop a far left Daily Beast hack from claiming the line was a mile long to get into the event! Meanwhile in the middle for rural Illinois President Trump had an event and his line did look to be a mile long –

Soon after Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker announced the passing of his father, some liberal Twitter users went after the Republican incumbent. Llewellyn Scott Walker, a retired Baptist preacher, passed away on Sunday, and the governor canceled weekend events to be with his family. In response to news of the governor's passing, one Twitter user wrote, "May all Republicans eat sh#t always and forever." After one Twitter user responded with a call for compassion, the same person responded, "Compassion for team trump? Really? lol. These arnt people. Politicians arnt people. [sic] This is just another PR opportunity for this sh#tbag." Another...

For Republicans in Wisconsin, it’s a time to be sentimental — and scared. BURLINGTON, Wisconsin — Picnics aren’t supposed to be maudlin. But last weekend, as they piled their plates with bratwurst and tipped back cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon at Speaker Paul Ryan’s annual Fall Fest, Wisconsin Republicans wrestled with their mortality as a powerhouse in state and national politics. Gov. Scott Walker, who is seeking a third term in November, delivered the biggest buzzkill. Believe the polls, he told the nearly 300 activists gathered here inside a tarpaulin tent in the middle of an apple orchard. Even the...

FULL TITLE: Scott Walker's Dem Opponent: Tax Dollars Should Pay for Abortions Just Like They Pay for Tonsillectomies Tony Evers, the Wisconsin Democratic gubernatorial nominee running against Scott Walker, said in an interview on Tuesday that the Democratic party needs to be a "big tent" that welcomes pro-life voters order to win in November. While pro-life Democrats are dwindling in numbers in Congress and ostracized within other states, Evers told THE WEEKLY STANDARD that "pro-life Democrats are welcome in the party, and I respect their decisions on this issue." Evers then proceeded to compare abortions to tonsillectomies while advocating for...

SUPERIOR, Wis. ― It was a little early for a drink, but that wasn’t going to stop Mahlon Mitchell. It was a Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in Superior, a port city of 30,000 in Wisconsin’s far northwest corner. Mitchell, the leader of the Professional Firefighters of Wisconsin and a Democratic candidate for governor, had just finished touring the city with fellow firefighters and was about to kick off an economic roundtable with other union members. But first, he was perusing the beer list at Thirsty Pagan Brewing. Why? “I can run faster and jump higher than the other candidates,” he...

The Trump administration has approved a plan in Wisconsin allowing the state to shore up its Obamacare market. The plan is expected to lower premiums in 2019 by an average of 3.5 percent. Without it, premiums would rise by 11 percent in 2019, even after seeing hikes of 44 percent for 2018. “People in the individual market saw their premiums go up by 44 percent on average last year, and some saw much larger increases – that’s unsustainable and unacceptable,” said Republican Gov. Scott Walker, an Obamacare opponent. “Thankfully, the federal government is giving us the flexibility to implement a...

My decision to be a Democrat was never a decision. It was just expected of me. It was understood. Born into a family of Democrats, my grandfather would often spend weekends talking to me about his respect for Franklin Roosevelt and his annoyance with President Reagan. I listened and absorbed, but was not yet ready to think critically about what I was told – or to decide for myself. [snip] My parents have since turned their back on me, my wife, their grandchildren, and their extended family. Adding to this, they decided to make the maximum contribution to my Democrat...

Bryan Steil, a former aide to Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), on Sunday announced his bid for Ryan’s congressional seat, The Associated Press reported. “I want to take my problem-solving skills to Congress. I think they need problem solvers, doers ... not talkers,” Steil reportedly said. No viable Republican candidate had entered the race before Ryan announced his retirement earlier this month. The primary is scheduled for Aug. 14. Steil, who is from Ryan’s hometown of Janesville, sits on the Board of Regents for the University of Wisconsin, the AP reported. He served as an economic adviser and legislative aide to...

House Speaker Paul Ryan is not seeking re-election and will retire from Congress after this year, the Wisconsin Republican announced Wednesday. "You realize something when you take this job," Ryan told reporters on Capitol Hill "You realize you hold the office for just a small part of our history. So you better make the most of it." Ryan also said he has no "regrets." "I like to think I've done my part, my little part in history to set us on a better course," Ryan said. Ryan's departure is a blow to GOP members who saw the Wisconsin Republican as...
