A Michigan sheriff is sounding the alarm on "burglary tourism" — a recent trend where international organized crime groups enter the U.S. to skillfully rob wealthy suburban homes.
"We believe that there has to be some kind of training camp because they come so well-trained, so equipped, and so knowledgeable about how to move and how to attack a home," Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard on Wednesday told "FOX & Friends."
"They do a lot of pre-op surveillance. They determine as best they can when someone won't be in a home. They go very quickly to the home, they break a window. They go through it, not opening a door or window. They have an electronic jammer."
Bouchard said the gangs, mostly from Chile, are then able to quickly target home safes and small high-end items.
"They're very focused on high-end jewelry, like watches, cash, high-end purses… things that are highly, valuable and disposable. And out they go and they move on. They usually hit a number of homes in our area, and then they move on to another part of the country, and then another crew will come in. And it's been a cycle," he said.
Bouchard urged the State Department to reevaluate Chile's participation in the U.S. Visa Waiver Program, which allows tourists and business travelers to enter America for 90 days or less without having to obtain a visa or go through a thorough vetting process.

Much too much reliance on wi-fi and internet in the current generations of intrusion alarms. Easy to jam, and if you can do one, you can do ‘em all. Hard wired is more expensive, but more secure. We used an autodialer connected to a landline to notify police (and me) when I was managing a Honda dealership. No radio signal that could be jammed.
I personally like the idea of “Burglar Bomb” devices that are self-contained, hard wired, they flood the space with capsicum when triggered. Battery-backup means killing the power at the meter won’t work. Some are all-mechanical; opening a door or window to which they are connected trips the trigger.
There’s also a new device that fills the space with a dense fog, so they can’t see.
These bastards work really hard at not working for a living.

They’ll have to abandon their soft on crime attitudes. I personally know people there and I lived there for a short time. Most are moderate Dems (or were in those days). Probably still sticking to that sinful practice.

I can think of 5 ways off the top of my head that people can tell when I’m not at home, and they have NOTHING to on-site surveillance. Are there any laws protecting my privacy - dream on!
1. Smart Meter data for Electricity
2. Smart Meter data for Water
3. License Plate Cameras throughout my area
4. Cell Phone Pings
5. Internet Usage
Give me access to ANY of the above databases, I can tell you which homes have people presently living in them and which do not. Also note that 20 years ago, NONE of the above methods would have worked reliably, if at all.
