With Starlink now launching Satellites with Cell Phone capabilities and 6000 satellites in orbit I look for Starlink to keep exploding in subscribers, it might be an investment worth considering
I still think fiber lines are more robust than radio or wires for distance communications. EMP proof from the long distance aspect.

In the article they talk about a person who lives in a rural location and Starlink has been a godsend for them, in terms of surviving an EMP attack it would be so devastating does it really matter what survives because it would anarchy of the highest order

Testing EMP effects is extremely difficult.
Real world tests of EMP are nearly impossible because the effects are so widespread.
Survivability of devices exposed to EMP, on what small scale testing has been done, varies enormously depending on whether the device was turned on, plugged in, or shielded.
An EMP attack is essentially a nuclear attack, and should have the same consequences for the attacker.
Risking nuclear retaliation with an attack where the attacker does not know, and cannot know the actual effects, makes an EMP attack less likely.
There is a huge difference between an EMP which destroys/disables 75% of the power grid and communications systems, and an EMP which destroys/disables 99% of the power grid and communications systems.
If we have to worry about EMP attacks internet service will be the least of our concerns.
We’re rural and had one, very iffy, internet provider. They kept trying to upsell us to their 80Mbps service, even though tech after tech kept telling us the line on the road had been damaged by lightning and the fastest we coukd get was 40 Mbps. For our needs 40 is fine, but the techs also told us we were lucky to even be getting 40 and that we were the end of the line on the road even though the road conti n ues another. 2 miles with dozens of houses. It wasn’t enough potential business for the company to bother with repairs. So the second that Starlink was available in our area we jumped, and it’s been fantastic. We’ve had 1 outage in 8 months and that was fixed quickly. With the old service we had routine outages that sometimes took days to resolve. On the down side, the service is expensive and only business class was available so doubly expensive,and the equipment was expensive to purchase and a pain in the butt to install the way we wanted.
EMP attacks depend on near total destruction of the power grid and communications.
If the destruction is *not* near total, the retaliation risk increases enormously.
If the destruction is *not* near total, recovery without losing large percentages of the population (over 10%) becomes likely.
No one knows just how near total the effects of an EMP strike would be.
That is probably true but humans are more easy to predict even if the electrical grid was 75% destroyed it would create a situation where anarchy would rule and humans would start act irrationally those with the guns would be able to defend themselves otherwise they would become victims
Not very good reviews on Starlink’s non-iOS/ Android service. I’m trying to get rid of CommieCast/xfinity at $275/month, and get something more affordable, but nothing around worth a crap. Condo’s HOA rules prohibit unsightly dishes, except in rear yards.
Personally I’ve gotten to the point of not trusting reviews because I think a lot of them are planted by rivals and people who have unrealistic expectations of the service, I was a computer engineer and have a good understanding of what Starlink can do compared to alternatives and for remote users it’s a game changer
My daughter is rural, and like you, switched to Starlink. She loves it.
Lots of people in Alaska re using it. Even people in more urban locations. I think as soon as they start doing mobile phones along with it, I will make the move. Imagine a mobile phone that you can use virtually anywhere on the plant. Amazing!

Starlink is great. I’m song it right now. 2 TV’s streaming and several people watching videos on their phone.
Elon has his own worldwide distribution system and it’s not just for supplying a net connection. I’m amazed “they” let him build it.
