'Doctor Who' viewership plummets after woke star tells viewers, 'Don't watch. Turn off the TV.'

The beloved British series "Doctor Who" did not live up to ratings expectations after its star told viewers not to watch if they had a problem with the progressive messaging of the show. Its cast, former lead, and director have been promoting progressive ideologies recently, while the show's viewership has been cut nearly in half.

Lead actor and Doctor Who character Ncuti Gatwa already had the second-worst premiere for a season of "Doctor Who" in December 2023's Christmas special titled, "The Church on Ruby Road." According to the BBC, the episode had 4.7 million viewers.

As That Park Place noted, however, this only beat out the original "Doctor Who" premiere, "An Unearthly Child," that aired all the way back in 1963 to the tune of 4.4 million viewers. That same season saw a significant increase in viewership as it progressed, peaking at over 10 million viewers by episode 10.

The same upward trajectory cannot be said for Gatwa's iteration, who famously told critics not to watch if they didn't like the woke direction the series was taking.

"Don't watch. Turn off the TV. Go and touch grass, please, for God's sake," he told Variety. "As the world darkens — and I do think the world is darkening around queer rights — there is a joy and a celebration, and there’s a community," he continued.

I started with Tom Baker back in the very early 80s. I agree that the Drs up until the latest 2 had some good story lines. I just couldn’t watch the latest stuff!

Part of the charm of old Dr Who is that people could laugh at his occasional buffoonery, especially Matt Smith.

But you are NOT EVER allowed to play a black character as a buffoon. Nor a woman Doctor.

I stopped watching Dr Who after the David Tennant years, though Matt Smith had some episodes too. But yes, Russell T. Davies and Ncuti Gatwa have succeeded in destroying the once beloved TV series. I will never watch it again.

Star Wars and Star Trek have also been ruined by the gay activists.

The only audience they will command is the die-really-really-hard Dr Who fans, and some LGBTQ people most of who don’t really care how homosexual or transgender Dr Who is. The poor fans will watch because they have told all of their friends they are Dr Who fans and they might look homophobic if they suddenly aren’t fans any longer. I feel sorry for them. When Dr Who became a woman, he had to become a black woman, and then a black homosexual man. There aren’t many firsts left and what they do next might be pretty disgusting.

wasn’t a fan of Clara. Best grouping was River Song, Rory, and Amy Pond during the Matt Smith era.

I have enjoyed Dr Who since my youth, my mother and I would watch Tom Baker on PBS... She was more of a fan than I was at that point, but no episode was missed.

When they relaunched the series in the 2000s, I enjoyed it, though it was clear very early on they were pushing homosexuality... given the head writer and showrunner was gay, not surprising... It wasn’t the in your face horsecrap that goes on. now, but at some point every single episode had a gay character or couple in it... they usually had NOTHING to do with the plot, and just sort of shoe horned in, and there was really no reason at all plot wise that the audience should or would know they were gay, but believe me, they made sure you knew.

Over the years, there were more flagrant episodes pushing the gay normalization, but for the most part it was always just this little shoehorn a gay character in for no real reason other than propaganda and normalization.

I’d say the show really started to go off the rails with that stuff when they put Bill Potts as the companion... an openly lesbian black woman... then there wera a lot more regular overt things about homosexuality in the show, and sadly she was probably the least relatable companion of the series since its relaunch.

Of course if you said anything negative about this character you were a racist, and a homophone, nevermind that those same fans had happily accepted Mickey Smith and Martha Jones as companions for years. So accusations of being anti homosexual might hold water, but even that’s hard since so much of the series had had homsexuality presence in it, overtly and discretely... However if yoy dared question Billy Potts character you were a racist a hater of homosexuals.

After Capaldi left the new showrunner just took the show off the rails.... the show literally became unwatchable.. the first season with Jodi Whittaker was just atrociously bad... basically sit here an be lectured every episode about something.. let alone the doctor suddenly being a woman bitching about how men are the root of all evil in her snide commentaries etc... and a suggested lesbian attraction of course, because you know the doctor who’s always been a white man, and straight or at least no hit of anything else.. must now be not only a woman, but a woman who has feelings for other women... just unwatchable.

They tried to somewhat correct after that first season with her, but it was still a mess beyond all recogntion.

When Russle T Davies announced he was going to return there was a brief flicker of hope that the show would once again become entertaining and watchable.. however rather than admitting the woke nonsense was the problem he quickly doubled down on it, and they chose a gay black man to next be the doctor.. and all the other woke garbage that goes along with it.

Needless to say, expect it to continue to bomb.. because despite every indicator telling them they are losing their audience, they just keep doubling down on crap.

I personaly have written it off, I stuck through the Whittaker years just out of loyalty hoping it would get better... but now they have shown they have no intent to even try to make it better, I’m done.

Sorry, but an effemiate homosexual black man running around in Short sirts and halter tops is not “the doctor”.. its what happens when you have homosexuals running things and no one is willing to tell them no... If I wanted to watch that nonsense, I’d head down the to the red light district and bath houses... I have zero desire to see that, let alone let that garbage into my home.

Clara was certainly one of the better companions of the rebooted era, IMHO.

Billy Potts was by far the least relatable of the companions, up until the Whittaker years in which the entire show just became unwatchable across the board.

I’d say since the Reboot, the top companions would be not in any particular order.

Rose Tyler, Martha Jones, Donna Noble, Amy Pond and Clara.

There were other noteworthy ones, but those would be the best.

I think the father and stepson during Whittakers years, had promise, but that entire era was just bad across the board, and the indian woman companion was just terrible... and I mean that as the character, nothing against any of the actors or actresses during those years, they did the best they could with the crap writing they were handed.

lasted 2 more episodes more than I did.

I made it through the special where the regeneration split and wound up with 2 doctors.

Watch the first episode with the new doctor on his own, I think I made it maybe 5 minutes in before I turned it off adn was like I’m done.

The scene with him walking down the street effeminately in a short schoolgirl shirt and a mesh top... I was done, and don’t see myself going back.

I’ll get my fix watching original episodes on streaming.

I have made it a tradition of every year during the week after Thanksgiving, that I watch the Star Wars Holiday Special.

It's my one dalliance with sado-masochism for the year.

Most shows have been wrecked by the ‘wokeness’ and even commercials.

White males in commercials are almost exotic now.

And if they do show up, the commercial too often has to show them with their "husbands"/"boyfriends".

I was 4 when that special aired and I distinctly remember watching it. I also very clearly recall thinking that "this isn't Star Wars, where's Star Wars?"

To their credit, Art Carney and Bea Arthur are definitely not phoning it in despite the dumpster fire raging all around. Harvey Korman does pretty good too despite some wild missteps.

With better editing and tightening-up it might not be so bad. But all those long stretches of Wookiees roaring at each other, the "porn" scene with Diahann Carroll, etc those definitely needed jettisoning. It could have easily been an hour long instead of the two-hour travesty it became.

I like how you think! :-) At the very least the Rani should be involved. It sounds a bit like the “Dimensions in Time” special that ran 30 years ago and that’s not a bad thing.
