The only lunch box that I got,

After being ridiculed at school, I became a neo-luddite, and brown bagged it.

Beverly Hillbillies... wish I still had it. You’ve got to have the thermos too though; all I would have to do is sniff the inside of that lunchbox to be taken back to St. Mary’s Grade School, Georgetown SC, 1964

A fair guess is once ‘taxpayers’ were paying for ‘free’ lunches the metal lunchboxes just simply went extinct.

Probably not. A plastic shopping bag was just less labour intensive and it was re-usable.

ditto
mine was also red plaid
I carry an insulated blue lunch box now. For a couple of years, I have kept my eyes open for an insulated plaid lunch box but have yet to come across one. I have always loved plaid.
