Senate Asks White House for Able Danger Chart

The Senate Intelligence Committee has contacted the White House asking whether it has a copy of a pre-9/11 chart put together by the Able Danger military intelligence team that identified lead hijacker Mohamed Atta as a terrorist threat.

Time magazine reports that the Committee "last week drafted a letter asking the White House for a copy" of the politically explosive chart, which Congressman Curt Weldon said he gave to then-Deputy National Security Advisor Hadley two weeks after the 9/11 attacks.

Earlier this month, Able Danger whistleblower Lt. Col. Anthony Shaffer explained how the Atta chart was handed off to Hadley.

"Within two weeks of the attack, this colleague of mine ... she took that very poster [with Mohamed Atta] to Congressman [Curt] Weldon," Shaffer said in a radio interview. "And I have to say he took it right to [Steven] Hadley, I believe, over at the NSC."

"It's my understanding that he gave him that chart and Hadley had a great deal of interest in it," Shaffer added.

The one-time top aide to then-National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice has made no comment so far on the Able Danger controversy.

The Senate Intelligence Committee has also requested clearance from the Pentagon to interview all 11 members of the Able Danger team, including a so-far unidentified female data mining expert from California who first identified Atta as a terrorist threat.

Bush can't be responsible if the NSC got the chart two weeks after 9-11.

Rocky's leaked meno in action. Probably salivating at the prospect of demanding a "special prosecutor" going after President Bush.

Much as I'd love to believe thisand as sure as I am that Willie to cash to avoid OBL, this is a strange story. Would an active duty militray guy in the Pentagon hand someting off to a Congressman? If Weldon gave this to Hadley two weeks after 9/11, where has Weldon been since that time? Why didn't he raise hell during the commission hearings? And, of course, if there was such a chart, did Berger destroy it along with other evidence that would incriminate Willie?

From 1/21/2001-present.

Since when does that matter?

I am completely certain that the documents Sandy Burglar destroyed from the National Archives had something to do with Able Danger.

My view of anything positive and aggressive happening on this most CRITICAL national security issue is pretty bleak. The political class is going to protect itself, meaning that if ANYTHING does go forward with it, it will done in a way similar to the bogus 9/11 commission --- and really point to anyone or anything other than some, again, bogus, passive outcome.

We know Clinton's minions were behind this, most likely at his order. Washington is looking really bad nowadays, especially on the domestic agenda and the immigration scenario -- they will do all they can to bury any skeletons, in my opinion.

let the dopes at msm do what they will .as long as they get info on this out to the public. the public will draw their own conclusions. the fools will help the cause without knowing it. it will be hard to blame bush for the intel on atta and the others that was gathered well before his first term. this will be great!

Then they need to interview all members of the 9/11 Commission and staff to find out why they dismissed AD completely. Then they need to arrest Gorelick.

But 1st things 1st. Find out if AD really did ID Atta and Co., and were stopped in their efforts to get the FBI on the case.

Berger took the documents to his office in the District of Columbia, where he destroyed three of the copies. Soon after the October visit, the Archives discovered that documents were missing and, two days later, contacted Berger. Initially, Berger did not tell the Archives staff that he had taken the documents but later that night told Archives staff that he had “accidentally misfiled” two of them. The next day, he returned to Archives staff the two remaining copies of the five documents he had taken during the September and October visits. Each of the five copies of the document was produced to the 9-11 Commission in due course

Last sentence........could that be true? If so,does that mean the Omission commission know what doc's Berger destroyed but never revealed info to the public?

Ahhh.. the summer of 2001. I recall that since the election of the Bush administration, the Senate moved at glacial speed consenting to the Bush Cabinet appointments, then to go on summer recess. Ashcroft was pilloried and the election returns were still being scrutinized by the MSM. The Washington bureaucracy worried over who would become their chief.

Then came September 11th.

Transition should have taken place during the period Nov. 2000 through Jan. 2001. (Thank you Algore.) We're entering the fifth year of obfuscation, the real Clinton legacy.

Oh, no, I fully expect there will be Republican involvement at some level, to 'preserve amity in government,' or whatnot (which is what I expect will happen if Arlen Specter has any say in the investigation of this). If the administration was involved, I want it brought out-- but as to what advantage that would by them, I can scarcely imagine.
