Musings From My Quiet Porch: Swatting at flies to satisfy the Bob Kerrys of this nation

My home is on a cattle farm. Flies visit my porch after hatching in the fields, and I tend to swat the more determine beasties that irritate. My swattings do nothing to end the proliferation of flies born from the dung out in the fields. Bob Kerry wanted to know from Dr. Rice ‘just what flies President Bush had tried to swat.’ It was, of course, a partisan hack attack aimed at casting doubt on this administration’s efforts to fight terrorism foreign and domestic. Let’s dissect the foolishness of Kerry’s assault, before the likes of Chris Mathews, Andrea Mitchell, Ambassador Holbrooke, Peter Jennings, and Dan Rather have the opportunity to make B2 bombers out of imaginary flies (yes, imaginary, since Kerry implied Rice alluded to actions taken, when she was in fact addressing the president’s desire for change in policy).

The 9/11 Commission is tasked with discovering ways to better coordinate American policy in combating current and future terrorist efforts against the U.S. and our allies. Discovering where the pre-9/11 policies failed to prevent a homicidal attack is precisely what Dr. Rice swore an oath today to address. Swatting foreign flies with cruise missiles didn’t work. The Clinton administration tried that swatter to no avail, and perhaps even aided in the birth of more flies as the dung was scattered. Could that administration have done a better job? Doubtful … but it is not the fault of the Clinton administration, per se. Why? … Because, as Dr. Rice admirably pointed out, our pre-9/11 domestic bureaucracy prevented adequate cooperation between FBI, CIA, and local law enforcement. The crucial difference now as opposed to ‘then’ has direct bearing on the foolish notion posed by Bob Kerry regarding fly swatting … different policy approaches set the course of the previous administration.

Kerry asked, quite foolishly, ‘what flies did Bush swat?’ The foolishness arises from the meaning of the President’s wording: rather than continue to swat at flies --as the Clinton administration did in their effort to respond tit-for-tat, to avoid a broader engagement on foreign soils with U.S. troops, the current administration took a profoundly different road in engaging the source of the flies. Allow me to illustrate with my porch problem. I could continue to swat the flies that visit my sanctuary, or I could go into the fields and treat the source of the flies. This administration has chosen (quite rightly, in this one man’s opinion) to go into the fields and address the fly problem, rather than continue the previous administrations policy of swatting once irritated.

The partisan Democrat hit-men, like Chris Mathews and company, will seek to focus the nation’s attention upon the title of a memorandum, a presidential document briefing paper, rather than have us look more closely at the content of the document and the broader picture. Why? … Because looking at the broader picture supports going into the fields to address the source of flies, and these partisan hacks want to promote the former approach as a means to support the notion that administration change is needed, that election of a Democrat president will ‘put US back on the right track in fighting terrorism. Nothing could be further from the truth. This nation lacks enough fly swatters to deal with the proliferation of menacing flies as they arrive to do their evil in our country. We must go to the sources and exterminate.

It is no secret that the Democrats in Congress want to generate a ‘Watergate-esque’ commission in this election year, to cast false doubts upon this administrations effectiveness in countering terrorism. There is a fundamental difference in philosophy between Democrat notions and this administration’s methods. Sadly, we have 9/11 to prove the Democrat’s approach is feckless. Even more sadly, it appears that with the concerted effort of hacks like Mathews and the networks wishing to impugn this administration, the effort to obfuscate the realities has a chance of succeeding … unless the fly swatting approach is decisively exposed as foolishness. Thanks to Bob Kerry, that may be possible now! Preemption is deterrence. Swatting flies is reaction after the catastrophic fact.

The American sheeple equate being condescending and mean with being a smart bureaucrat and wrongly so. I didn't think 9-11 was anything to smirk about but I sure saw a lot of smirks, INCLUDING JAMIE GORELICK. She even looked away when Condi was talking which was VERY RUDE. I guess I'm a Republican because democrats are from another planet.

Did you notice that the dems were shilling for Woodword's new book today? SHILLING in the form of an interrogation.

The way I see it these women that attend the commission meetings are not accepting a settlement and are looking for information to sue. To sue they need to place blame. It is getting harder and harder to feel sympathy for people that are greedy. I had to turn off Hardball because they were coming on next and I didn't think I could handle it.

Maybe so, but Clinton missed the opportunity to take Osama out when he had the chance. Funny how Bob Kerry was getting mad at Condi today, when it was him who said, "The most important thing the Clinton administration could have done would have been for the president, either himself or by going to Congress, asking for a congressional declaration to declare war on al-Qaida, a military-political organization that had declared war on us." Bob Kerrey's seizing upon the 'swatting flies' comment was most telling ... her comment was clearly regarding the president's desire to no longer play the tit-for-tat game of the previous administration, to switch to a preemptive deterrence mode. But so many will miss the sleazy Kerrey effort to twist what the president said and Dr. Rice related. It was clear from the outset that the democrat partisan hacks packing the committee were on a separate agenda from what the proclaimed mission of that body was stated to be. I smell the clinton-MacCauliffe filth under the scum coating the surface of the partisan efforts.

Very well done..Thanks for pointing me this way....Wrote a piece a few years back entitled "Some days you step in it, Some days you don't." Kerry stepped in it today.

I loved it when Rice answered his misnaming her with "we don't even look alike!" She could have just corrected him. The fact that he confused gender/race made the intelligence variation between the two of them obvious. Rice has such a mind for detail, organizational fact, listening skills etc....and Kerrey didn't even know with whom he was speaking..

Oh mama, he knew full well with whom he was exchanging. His job was to try and fluster her since BenVeniste had failed to do so. He made of himself a large squishy bluefly, to be slapped out of existence. His rude actions --rubbing his semi-bare head, scoffing, smirking incredulously, then snatching at the 'swatting' comment-- proved once again that the dnc is thoroughly rancid and in need of tossing out!

I sent CM an e-mail today that said. Chris, If you want to know why I stopped watching you it is because if I wanted to know your opinion I would go on the DNC website myself.

Guess I forgot the ;^) on the end of that one....Actually not calling a person by their rightful name is an "invalidation" technique employed to keep people "in their place".

Condi certainly put him in his....AS President Bush did the other day to the guy from AP who didn't address him correctly.

We certainly agree on the smell of the liberals.

I couldn't figure out why Kerrey kept calling Condi Rice "Mr. Clarke". He did it at least a half-a-dozen times. I'm not up on all of the Dems' slimy techniques. I'm sure it was a set-up job - something they discussed and planned beforehand. Actually, the Dems' whole performance looked like a skit you'd see on Saturday Night Live.

I knew that the 'swatting at flies" remark was about clinton "hitting a camel in the butt & knocking down a $10. tent" in his sorry effort to distract everyone from Monica. I wish Dr. Rice, when she was questioned by Kerrey, would have told him "it was clinton who swatted at flies". George Bush prefers to do things the right way.

That was perhaps what Kerrey, et al were hoping for, so the dnc could then jump on Bush and his administration for 'passing the buck, blaming sinkEmperor clinton'. It was a set up from the get go, as proven with Kerrey's little game of calling Dr. Rice, 'Dr. Clarke'. He didn't succeed because she is smarter than the entire dnc rolled into one stinking pile.

The saddest part of their antics is what I call the "Baby with the bathwater" syndrome - I've heard several people remark that they "have zero sympathy for the survivors anymore". That's unfortunate. These broads with their agenda are besmirching the character of anyone who lost someone on 9/11.
I hope for a blowback on them.......
