Chris Matthews describes "the Catholic Vote" on IMUS in the MORNING
November 2, 2004 | TaxachusettsMan

Chris Matthews is on IMUS in the MORNING with that other great Irish Catholic Democratic operative, the plagiarist Mike Barnicle (who spent yesterday making his on-air staff practice saying, "President-elect Kerry").

When IMUS brought up that his brother is a big time Republican official in Pennsylvania, Matthews made sure everyone knew that his father, a life-long Republican, voted for Kerry (Gore last time: life-long Republican?) because he was "sick of those young guys dying in Iraq."

Matthews went on, "My two aunts are nuns - and no one tells them how to vote. The bishops are all Republicans, but the nuns are always for the poor."

Reminds me of an elderly nun I saw here in Boston during the Kennedy-Romney campaign wearing a huge KENNEDY button on her habit. When I asked her about the drowning of Mary Jo Kopecne and the details of death by partial-birth abortion, she simply said, "But ROSE suffered so much."

Much has been made of the danger of "the stupid youth vote" in this election.

They're not the only stupid ones, and highly-paid stupid people like Matthews is, of course, cheering them on.

Too bad Mel Gibson didn't loudly endorse Bush a month ago or so. He could have a had a big effect IMO.

Interesing way of making his religion politics.

Fascinating isn't it that the average enlisted Soldier (who gets paid sh*t and suffers the most in any military conflict) supports Bush. The same was true during the Civil War, when opposition to the war grew strong among the general public who suffered no physical peril during the war war but the majority of Soldiers always favored Lincoln even though he reelection meant they'd have to keep fighting.

It says a lot about the character of our Soldiers. Though most of them I know dread the prospect of being sent to Iraq, they are principled enough to understand what needs to be done and who needs to be in charge to make sure that happens.

Being a Traditional Catholic myself, I can tell you that some nuns are not the brightest bulb in the box.

Our cars in MI were bombed with Kerry flyers after mass on Sunday. I had two because of my "I am a Right Wing Nut Job" bumpersticker.

I agree. Mel is a moron. If was really for life, he would not use Irak as a canard.

So what is the question for, you surely are not going to claim that Matthews is going to vote for President Bush now are you?

I heard about the handbook and there was just as much emphasis about 'war' which gives liberals a perfect out to compare and contrast 'life' and vote either party.

Heard Cokie Roberts on TV a month or so ago. She said the election will be decided by catholics and they will vote for President Bush.

Sorry chrissy sissy.

I remember this pompous, arrogant, motor-mouthed twit describing his "private audience" with the Pope several years ago. Mr. Big Shot. But he'd vote for an abortionist in a heartbeat! He'd vote for homo marriage in a heartbeat! He's a smug rectal cavity who only knows how to ask a 10 minute question and then interrupts you the moment you try to speak. Infantile, a screaming little putz who who deserves a good ol whuppin' to try and kick the s*it out of him,.....but that could take years!!

I get so tired of this "Democrats are for the poor" crap. If that were true, why is it that Kerry, Gore, Clinton, etc., have such a hard time reaching into their own pockets to help the poor? "Helping" the poor with confiscatory taxes (which they are careful to avoid paying themselves) to fund bloated bureaucracies? Right, very charitable. And last time I checked, the Republicans weren't running a pro-poverty platform. The Republican policies are intended to allow people (with the desire to do so) to lift themselves out of poverty... the Democrats want to rely on government handouts to institutionalize poverty (not to mention irresponsibility, illegitimacy, etc.) in order to buy themselves power. Boy, this gets me mad! Some of those left wing nuns... don't get me started!!!!

1) Matthews doesn't know the difference between a Jesuit (marxist) and a Dominican (free market) priest.

2) Some nuns are ordered by bishops to protest on behalf of women priests

3) This doesn't mean that everyone agrees

4) Matthews wants to pretend that the image of the original JFK lives, when the last 40 years paints a truly inhumane picture by the big D Democrats

5) Matthews ignores the Pope himself, who for all his faults worked to bring down communism.

6) Matthews never apologized for being on the wrong side of humanity toward the recently liberated Eastern Europeans.

Exactly!! And stupidity carries over to PA as well. I've spoken with a number of older voters, many who voted Bush in 2000. Matthews and the others should be quite pleased, their plan is swaying voters whose only source of news is them. Their poisonous spew is working quite well. It's sickening.

This Catholic proudly cast her vote for President Bush this morning.

What kind of nun was that - rhetorical, maybe part of 'Kerry's' parish. Murder, abortion - ok, Rose Kennedy's suffering, that's where the real election issue is? Wow.

It was not a big deal to get a private audience with the Pope until his health declined. All you had to do was make a written request and you were in.
