WASHINGTON - Although President Bush says he doesn't recall meeting convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff, the two have reportedly turned up in photos together.
Both Washingtonian and Time magazines have reported the existence of about a half-dozen photos showing the two together.
Time reported on its Web site Sunday that its staff members have seen at least six photos featuring Bush and Abramoff, who has pleaded guilty to federal charges stemming from his lobbying practices and has pledged to cooperate with investigators. They appeared to have been taken at White House functions, according to the reports.
The White House has acknowledged that Abramoff attended some events at the Executive Mansion, and spokeswoman Dana Perino said Sunday it's not surprising that the two would have met.
"The president has taken tens upon thousands of pictures at such events," Perino said.
Abramoff met a few times with White House staff and attended Hanukkah receptions in 2001 and 2002, the White House has said, but officials there have refused to disclose how many times he's been into the complex or what business he had there.
The White House also has not released any photos featuring the president and Abramoff, who was declared a Bush "pioneer" for raising at least $100,000 for the Bush-Cheney '04 re-election campaign.
Contributions that came directly from Abramoff, his wife and one of the American Indian tribes he represented — a total of $6,000 — were donated to the American Heart Association by the campaign just days after Abramoff entered his guilty pleas.
The White House, after playing down the Bush-Abramoff photos and the lobbyist's ties to the president, criticized Abramoff for breaking the law. "Mr. Abramoff admitted being involved in outrageous wrongdoing," Perino said.
I'm just so glad that Time, Newsweek, etc. went after Clinton as ferociously and obviously as they do with President Bush. Right!!!
What a joke these magazines and the rest of the MSM is! I'm just really tired of this endless assault on W and how they are trying to find anything that they can on him even if it is destructive to our National Security like in the case with the NSA deal.
There was so many obvious illegal doings in the Clinton administration and minus Rush there was NOBODY talking about it.
Guys, I don't like Clinton either, but he's gone now !! We know the liberal media is against Bush, but the president has to make sure he doesn't give them any more ammo !! I hope Bush is telling the truth about Abramoff, that's all. Otherwise, it's going to be bad news.

I haven't read this whole story, but the story on CNN webpage said that Abramoff is pictured with several of his sons in different pictures. When you take your kids to see Santa Claus you don't throw him them all in his lap and take one picture. It was probably a dad's day out thing and each of his sons got to have a personal momento of meeting the President.
Also, if I was a lobbyist, I would try to get as many photos of myself with the present administration to hang on my wall and impress the people I was smoozing.
It bothers me that the media says, 'We've seen the photos, but we won't post them. Just trust us to interpret them.' Yeah, right. Probably if we saw the photos we would realize they were all just 'shake the President's hand and snap a picture' pictures.

As I recall, Bill and Hillary Clinton were seen posing with dozens of convicted felons, with Clinton even pardoning many of them on his last day in office.
Then there were all those dead bodies of friends who committed suicide, etc. in Arkansas. What are the odds of so many "friends" committing suicide, dying in plane crashes, or just mysteriously dying anyway?

Perhaps you can explain why 2 of the 5 target in the 1st level DOJ investigation into Abramoff's ties to lawmakers are Harry Reid (D-NV) and Byron Dorgan (D-NV)?
But it is not about the facts now is it? Just another excuse for the usual collection of whiners to rant at Bush.

I don't know...that's a good question...and that's always a good question in these kinds of matters.
