New Poll Shows Traditional Marriage in the Lead [California]

Yes on 8 is leading the race, 47% Yes to 42% No, with 10% undecided, according to a new CBS 5 (San Francisco) poll. That is up 3% for Yes and down 7% for No since September 25th -- a total of a 10% gain for Yes. On September 25th, CBS 5's poll showed the race at 44% Yes to 49% No, with 7% undecided. Yes on 8 is attributing the gain to their first television ad, which was released last week, and to their massive door to door campaign.

The ad features footage of San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom arrogantly speaking of gay marriage, declaring to Californians, "The door's wide open now. It's gonna happen, whether you like it or not!" The ad goes on to remind voters that gay marriage was imposed on California by a narrowly divided California Supreme County overturning the vote of over 4 million Californians who overwhelmingly passed Proposition 22.

Note to McCain: This is what the right kind of ad can do for you.

The more people understand what the bill is, the more people will support it. The opposition likes to play the “you don't support homosexual marriage, you must be a gay hater” game.

LOL..aw..poor Ellen.

This is the wacky culture of California. A lot of Mexicans are socialist, BUT are very anti gay and anti abortion.
Go figure.

If McCain was doing better, something like this could help him out. This year, at least, he has no shot in CA.

A lot of Boston area "catholics" are very socialist, very pro-gay and very pro-abortion, based on who they elect time & time again.

Nah, look at my post above. A lot of Mexicans and even black voters are against gay marriage, but will vote left wing for their canidate every single time.

You'll see an enormous turnout of conservative voters. Proposition 8 will pass by at least 60%. The polls always understate the true appeal of traditional marriage in this society.

This is a good sign because the conservative side in these marriage votes always wins by a wider margin than predicted in the polls. Either the polls are biased or there’s a version of the Bradley Effect at play. In Virginia & Ohio, for example, traditional marriage won by well into double digits after polls said it was too close to call. In states like Missouri, our side won 70-30 after polls showed it much, much closer (single digit spread, if I recall). Homo activists worked overtime in Wisconsin & Oregon, thinking they could win there and citing polls to prove it, and they lost by 15 points or so. Let’s hope California shows sanity on at least one issue this year.

Agreed. The ad is primarily responsible for the success of this initiative.

Anytwosome Newsome may have been swept up in the moment when he made that comment, but was it ever a stupid thing to say.

Sure, and the Mexican culture is against gay marriage and abortion, but they will vote for socialistic candidates who support both abortion and gay rights. HOWEVER, whenever they get a chance to vote for an amendment on the specific social issue at mentioned above, they vote conservative.
Again..go figure. Same with black voters, they usually do not support gay marriage.

Proposition 22 passed with 61% in 2000. I think the Left has a major problem and that its the whole same sex marriage meme runs counter to most people's values. And to be told we have to have a bunch of arrogant liberal judges take away our votes for our own good - well, that's just too much.

Muslims are also very anti-gay. I wonder where our Chinese immigrants stand on this issue.
