If your family has held onto a congressional seat for over 75 years, if you were first elected when a veteran of the Civil War was still alive, if you are the longest serving member of the House of Representatives in history, one might say your power is pretty well entrenched.
But for Rep. John Dingell, 84, that death grip on power may be slipping.
In a recent poll, Dingell was down four points to his Republican challenger Rob Steele, a doctor who has never run for political office before. Steele said his patients often tell him they think its time Dingell retire after a (very) long, good run.

I’ll go further on term limits. It should be written that, say, you, taildragger, or me, NCC-1701, can ONLY have one term in the Senate and ONE term in the House. No more. Once we have had our shot at it THAT’S IT! PERIOD! We can’t lay off for an election cycle and run again. That eliminates any possibilities about us getting back in, no matter how good we may have been.
That’s ok, but I and thinking 4, 6, and 8 yrs in the spirit of the founders staggering things a bit to begin with. Even with the 4,6,8, their might be issues I haven’t thought out like ou mentioned the transition between bodies via a run etc....
Wow. A refreshing change from the socialist-Marxist idiots who populate the medical profession.
Rep. John Dingell (D-MI), the Dean of the House of Representatives for being the longest serving member of the body (he was first elected in 1955, succeeding his father, Rep. John Dingell, Sr.), made an amazing admission during a live telephone interview with Detroit WJR News/Talk 760 radio talk show host Paul W. Smith on Smiths show Monday morning, March 22, 2010.
The night before, Dingell had been a featured speaker at the Democrat Congressional leadership victory press conference after Obamacare passed the House.
In response to a question posed by Smith, Dingell said:
"Let me remind you this [Americans allegedly dying because of lack of universal health care] has been going on for years. We are bringing it to a halt.
The harsh fact of the matter is when youre going to pass legislation that will cover 300 [million] American people in different ways it takes a long time to do the necessary administrative steps that have to be taken to put the legislation together to control the people................"
take the popular vote for senate out, and you won’t need term limits.
Dingell-Berry IS THE POSTER-CHILD for TERM-LIMITS!!!!!!!!!!
END FAMILY DYNASTIES!!!
Proudly looking out at my “Dr. Ron Steele” sign in my front yard as I type!! Dingell is a piece of crap!
And so is his pos wife. Funny how she is on so many boards, controlling on the inside? Look at this google shot at his wifie and talk about corruption!
ugh...you know that posting that is going to force several of us to donate...:)
btw ...how is Benishek doing?....is that third party guy still in the race?..
2 weeks ago on WJR some RNC wonk let it be known that the DNC has pulled out of the Benishek race no dinero, they know it is lost....
Oh my, you are preceptive, wow, I would have never thought to look at her background...
I knew she quit her job with GM right after the Town Hall Mtg that Mssr. Dingell lied to Mike Sola, and that made me raise an eyebrow...
She is on more boards than a professional Surfer.
But you bring up a point, so my criticially thinking mind has me asking: is she the power player behind the scenes with all these connections or just a truly civicially minded wife? If it is the 1st, who is Dr. Steele running against, Him, Her, or Both ????
The Oligarchy gets antsy when the peons and peasants start gettin’ uppity....
Dingell’s first name is spelled “John” (with an H); you should ask that it get fixed on the title of the thread.
I would go for those types of term limits if you would require all staff leave as well. Otherwise, you just have a figurehead, with the staff running the country.
Bttt and Laura Ingraham had the good Dr. on today and has a link to this article as well....

If you would like to be added or dropped from the Michigan ping list, please freepmail me.
“Yet another poster child for term limits.”
I used to support term limits, however I have changed my position. Let me explain, using MI as an example. I have seen that term limits only mean that the pols jump from one office to another and they no longer have the fear of losing an election. It has done much more harm than good..
I would much rather see a voting citizenry that is educated and cares about individual freedom.
