The Obama administration passed up multiple opportunities to rescue Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl because the president was dead-set on finding a reason to begin emptying Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, according to a Pentagon official.
'JSOC went to the White House with several specific rescue-op scenarios,' the official with knowledge of interagency negotiations underway since at least November 2013 told MailOnline, referring to the Joint Special Operations Command. 'But no one ever got traction.'
'What we learned along the way was that the president wanted a diplomatic scenario that would establish a precedent for repatriating detainees from Gitmo,' he said.
The official said a State Department liaison described the lay of the land to him in February, shortly after the Taliban sent the U.S. government a month-old video of Bergdahl in January, looking sickly and haggard, in an effort to create a sense of urgency about his health and effect a quick prisoner trade.
'He basically told me that no matter what JSOC put on the table, it was never going to fly because the president isn't going to leave office with Gitmo intact, and this was the best opportunity to see that through.'

If true - it only proves obama’s stupidity, because its going to be even more difficult to empty Gitmo now.
I heard a caller this morning on WMAL (Washington, DC) Chris Plante’s show.
I take it with a grain of salt, however the caller said he has been talking to very high level people in the DOD that basically said the “Fix is in”.
Bergdorf, will NOT BE BROUGHT UP ON DESERTION CHARGES.
The caller didn’t sound like some flake.

It is also clear that Barry really, really, really wanted to get Bowe Bergdahl back.
They knew he was a deserter, likely even a defector. They even "sanitized" Bergdahl's file that was shared with Congress to hide this fact.
Yet, for four years they kept pressing this particular exchange.
Why? What makes Bowe Bergdahl, himself, such an important commodity? Especially when the standard issue GI wouldn't move the meter on Obama's want list.
This whole episode was about facilitating the closure of GITMO.
The only problem is that the fig leaf for this from the Bergdahl release ain’t working.
I think the whole “exchange” was planned before Bergdahl ever walked off base.
We have a member of the Muslim Brotherhood for a president.
Congress had better TAKE ACTION before any more damage is done or they will ALL have blood on their hands.
Now we have celebratory lone wolf shooters coming out of the woodwork in Canada and Seattle. What do they have to fear now when they all know our president is one of them?

The article linked to in #30 said that the Obama administration made this prisoner exchange offer in February, 2014.
Hadn’t heard/seen anything like that until this article.
