WASHINGTON President Donald Trumps crackdown on immigrants may not look on paper like a mass deportation, but for many people it feels like one.
Statistically Trumps sweep of immigrants, while up from last year, doesnt compare to the deportations done in the early years of President Barack Obamas first term.
But the administrations attempt to return to the peak deportation levels under Obama or surpass them, combined with Trumps rhetoric and his drive to slash legal immigration, have whipped up enough fear to make some feel a mass roundup is underway.
At any moment I feel I could just be taken away, said Luis, a 16-year-old Wisconsin resident who is undocumented and did not want his last name used.
The fear is not unfounded. Immigration officers are picking up people in places where they once thought they were safe and taking into custody people who had not previously been targets.

And the problem is?
Shouldn’t they be thankful to get a free one way ticket out of this racist, xenophobic white supremacist country?
I sincerely wish he was.
So far the numbers are small compared to the real number of illegal aliens.
We passed the 11 million number the Ministry of Propaganda uses 17 years ago.
I have read that Obama's numbers included people who were intercepted by the Border Patrol and sent back across the border as "deportations".
I think Trump's numbers are for real deportations.
I wish!
Sweep down Cali starting north of San Fran with 5-10k ICE agents.
Backed up by 5k National Guard.
Arrest anyone who attempts to obstruct ...including gov officials.
He’s just letting the various departments do their job, with no interference. Their 8 years behind schedule, and have a lot of ‘catching’ up to do!............................
Obama was counting border turnarounds as deportations to make it look like he was doing something.
Those had never been counted as deportations.
I think you just answered my post #28 question. Thanks.
Most, if not all, companies in Wisconsin use E-Verify, so he will not be able to work for any company, just pickup jobs, under the table. At least he seems to speak English, unless that is a translation quote. Leave now kiddo.
Thank-you and God Bless.
That’s great. I recommend trains with cattle cars for mass deportations.
Thank-you and God Bless.
Obama invited and let masses of illegals enter through his open borders.. they came by the truck load, train load, any load they could. Some may have been families desiring a better life, but NO ONE was checking who they were or where they were coming from.
Terrorists knew the border was open and came up from the southern countries into the U S... and deportation is needed by sane thinkers. What obama did made no sense .. it was part of his ‘destruction agenda’ attitude toward our country. He was the President of the United States and had NO allegiance for this great land.
If not, he should be.
That would be a very GOOD thing!
Yes...everyone turned around at the border was counted as a deportation. Everything the press claims obama did is a lie.
President O’s figures were twisted. Illegals caught at the border in the act of crossing and simply sent back across were counted as deportations.
In the past and currently those sent back across at the border are not counted as deportations. To be considered deportations there has to be either paperwork done for illegals to agree to be deported immediately or there has to be a hearing with the result that deportation orders are issued by a judge.
Deportation numbers are high now, as they should be.
“ut since the Trump administration announced it would end TPS for Salvadorans, he may have to return to El Salvador before the home is completed.
Im really mad, Acosta said. I have been in the U.S. 17 years and never been in trouble. No DWI, no alcohol. I try to follow all the laws of this country, this state.”
Well Carlos, you should not have been allowed to stay here for 17 years as “a temporary member of our immigrant community!”
And FWIW, I’m mad at our government for allowing you the privilege of staying here “temporarily” for that ridiculously long period of time. Because the truth of the matter is that the way it has worked, anyone granted “temporary status,” has never gone home.
We should stop allowing people in countries facing some kind of adversity, to “come here” at all.
