Broward County Sheriff: 'Of Course I Won't Resign'
Townhall.com ^ | February 25, 2018 | Timothy Meads

Posted on 02/25/2018 10:30:25 AM PST by Kaslin

Today on CNN’s State of the Union, Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel slammed critics who have called for his resignation due to a massive failure on the police department’s part to take proactive measures that could have prevented the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Shooting which lead  to 17 innocent Americans being killed.

On one of the final questions in the interview, host Jake Tapper read state representative Bill Hager (R-Boca Raton) statement that said, “An investigation by Sheriff Israel into the unfathomable inaction of these deputies will do nothing to bring back the 17 victims the Sheriff was fully aware of the threat this individual presented to his communities and chose to ignore it.”

"What’s your response and will you resign?," Tapper asked.

“It was a shame- Of course, I won’t resign,” the sheriff responded with a defensive tone of annoyance.

“It was a shameful letter. It was politically motivated. I never met that man,he doesn’t know anything about me and the letter was full of misinformation. I wrote a letter back to the governor, I talked about all the mistakes that Hager made in his letter. It was a shameful, politically motivated letter, that had no facts and of course I won’t resign," he continued.

"Of course I won't resign," says Sheriff Scott Israel, after Florida state representative sends letter to Gov. Rick Scott calling for Israel's removal for "neglect of duty and incompetence" #CNNSOTU https://t.co/tQ0ai2G92p— CNN (@CNN) February 25, 2018

The fact that Rep. Hager has never met Sheriff Israel makes little to no difference in this story. Broward County’s Sheriff Department deputies visited the school shooter's home 39 times.There were 18 calls to the police from individuals fearful that the individual in question would one day actually shoot up a school.

One of those calls was heard by Deputy Scot Peterson. As Matt noted, "Peterson was the officer who waited outside of the building and failed to engage Cruz on the day of the shooting. The hooting lasted six minutes; Peterson remained idle for four minutes. He has since resigned after video footage caught him doing nothing as the rampage occurred at the school."

In any organization, leadership starts from the top. All of those facts indicate a serious failure of leadership by Sheriff Israel to protect and defend the public against an obvious threat to society.  Yet, when asked about it, Sheriff Israel abdicated all responsibility.

.@browardsheriff to @jaketapper:
"I can only take responsibility for what I knew about... I've given amazing leadership to this agency... you don't measure a person's leadership by a deputy." #CNNSOTU— State of the Union (@CNNSotu) February 25, 2018

Most Americans hearing that would be dumbfounded by such an arrogant statement and at a loss for words. But leave it to Townhall's own Katie Pavlich to find the perfect word to succinctly summarize Sheriff Israel.

WOW: @browardsheriff says he has given “amazing leadership”
to the county and in the Parkland case overall. Delusional.— Katie Pavlich (@KatiePavlich) February 25, 2018

It may not have been Sheriff Israel's fault that the deputy did not go in to the school sooner. It may not have been his fault that the school shooter did not get the help he needed earlier in life. It surely was not his fault that the shooter pulled the trigger. But it is his responsibility to know exactly what is going on in his department and to train his deputies to be prepared at all times, to follow through on all threats to the public, and to protect innocents by making sure menaces to society are not in positions where they can actually hurt law-abiding citizens.

In 2013, Sheriff Israel entered a collaborative 'sanctuary' agreement with other county officials and the Broward County school board to not arrest or prosecute juvenile delinquents in order to lower the stats of minorities incarcerated and meet federal quotas by which they received additional federal funding.

Tax dollars received under false pretenses need to be exposed. Taxpayers demand the Sheriff's Office books be audited at once. The Sheriff runs the largest fully accredited sheriff’s office in the country, oversees nearly 6,000 employees, has an annual budget of $730 million tax dollars, and holds enormous political power.

The Bank Secrecy Act should be mobilized----to follow the paper trail and determine how money changed hands among (a) the Sheriff's Office (b) L/E projects, (c) and/or political activities.

Taxpayers demand that the scope and dimension of collusion in sub rosa deals be examined, as to who might be personally profiting and if financing domestic terrorism is being facilitated.

<><> L/E needs to examine bank accounts of the aforementioned.

<><> Joint bank accounts might be used to facilitate the transfer funds from one account to another, and/or wire-transferred offshore;

<><> To cover their tracks, fake invoices might be created to show that money deposited into Sheriff's Office accounts was being used for legitimate purposes.

<><> Financial schemes scheme might be advanced by issuing phony statements of payments from financial sources that actually covered the transfer of funds for insiders' personal use and/or for financing domestic terrorism.

Shady banking transactions could be prosecuted under the (1) Bank Secrecy ACT, (2) RICO, and, (3) the Hobbs Act.

=============================================

<><> L/E should get ahold of: (1) copies of Sheriff's Office checks, (2) wire transfers, (3) account statements, (4) invoices, (5) bills, (6) delivery tickets, (7) SPLC correspondence including snail mail, e-mail, mobile devices, cell phones, (8) contracts, (9) loan agreements, (10) other account books or official records.

L/E should also explore (a) monies paid to brokers, sub- brokers, (b) family members, (c) mortgage brokers, (d) financial managers, and, (e) real estate agents, brokers, and developers.

<><> L/E should scrutinize bank accounts for suspicious activities: (A) large deposits, (B) funds transferred from one account into another, (C) frequent requests for withdrawals.

<><> Sheriff's Office bank records might also show diversions to secret LLC accounts, to money launder and to operate personal ventures;

Tax fraud may also be a factor, facilitated by withdrawals, gift cards purchases, credit card purchases and intra-bank transfers from legal bank accounts into personal accounts, or redistribution schemes.

<><> A huge tipoff is whether withdrawals support luxurious lifestyle including payments for real estate, investment and stock holdings, jewelry, luxury vehicles, resort travel....... and gifts and purchases from luxury outlets.

NOTE Falsifying official govt records is a criminal scheme to hide larger crimes.

Does the governor have the authority to fire an elected county official?

Their congressrat.....

Deborah Wasserman Schultz born September 27, 1966) is an American politician. She is the U.S. Representative for Florida’s 23rd congressional district. She is a member of the Democratic Party and was a former chairperson for the Democratic National Committee.

Wasserman Schultz previously served in the Florida House of Representatives and the Florida Senate, and was a national campaign co-chair[1] for Hillary Clinton’s unsuccessful 2008 run for president. She is the first Jewish congresswoman elected from Florida. Her district covers parts of Broward and Miami-Dade Counties, including parts of Fort Lauderdale, Miami, and Miami Beach.

Wasserman Schultz was elected chairperson of the Democratic National Committee in May 2011, replacing Virginia Senator Tim Kaine.[2][3] On July 24, 2016, Wasserman Schultz announced her resignation from her position after Wikileaks released a collection of hacked emails indicating that Wasserman Schultz and other members of the DNC staff showed bias against the presidential campaign of Senator Bernie Sanders in favor of Hillary Clinton’s campaign.[3] Her resignation was finalized on July 28 following the 2016 Democratic National Convention.[4] She was subsequently appointed honorary chair of the Clinton campaign’s “50 state program”.[73]

He won’t resign? Well he had better have a very deep pocket litigation fund. There are 17 sets of parents ready to keel-haul his sorry ass! Same with the School Board and the school management people. Peterson himself also will be sued.

If the POS resigned, then he would show some contrition for his use of political correct liberal fascist twist managegement, instead of getting the job DONE!

Gov. Scott has already called for the resignation of the director of the FBI although he has no power to fire him. He does have the power to remove the sheriff of Coward County to enforce accountability for the abject failure of local law enforcement and hopefully will do so in the very near future.

BTW, were he a R Sheriff/Chief and spent his time in the aftermath schmoozing on FOX, ALL the LIBs would be screaming for him to get his ass back to Florida and straighten HIS mess out.

If Rs were to demand the same, LIBs would accuse the Rs of not giving him the opportunity to defend himself....

IF IT NOT FOR DOUBLE STANDARDS, LIBS WOULD HAVE NO STANDARDS AT ALL (C PLANTE)

A number of people are asserting that the Broward Sheriff’s Dept and the Broward Board of Education worked in tandem over the past several years to treat students with serious discipline issues, up to and including engaging in criminal activity, with a bias not to arrest them, because the higher the arrest rate of students, the greater the negative impact on state and federal funding for education. And, of course, it’s well known that police brass want low arrest rates because it makes them look like they’re preventing crime effectively.

Did Scot Peterson avoid investigating and potentially arresting Cruz because he knew either implicitly or explicitly that his superiors didn’t want high school kids arrested?

The question needs to be investigated.

Broward county is the most liberal county in Florida.

This creature’s actions come as no surprise.

I used to live there.

In fact, I live just a couple of miles from the school site, as the crow flies.

This county was also the same county the Dems tried to use to steal the Presidential election in 2000. Fights broke out over the poll watchers. The supervisor of elections was so incompetent that the governor had to remover her from office..........

The deep state progressives would be best served by this guy becoming a martyr. Heart attack or stroke. I would grow eyes in the back of my head if I were this guy. His useful idiot gage is reading almost empty now. His own will consume him one way or another. The story is becoming him and not guns.

He had 4 armed deputies stand down outside the school while kids were screaming and being murdered....

Time for President Trump to fire, arrest, interrogate the Sheriff and possibly charge him as co-conspirator.

I’m starting to think this guy might be involved based on his radical behavior.
