What will it take for Israel to kill Arafat?
None ^

Posted on 06/19/2002 2:10:17 PM PDT by hawaiian

Can someone help me understand WHAT is it going to take before Israel takes Arafat out of the equation? How many homicide bombs will it take before they finally do away with Arafat? The only thing I can think of is that they're afraid that Hamas militants will then take over the leadership of the PLO. However, I think that would be a good thing. If you're going to war, then get it on already!

My understanding is that they had tried to kill him as far back as the 1960's.

The only reason why Sharon hasn't taken out Arafat is because he made Bush a promise not to. There was a report a few days ago (maybe yesterday) that Israel was about to attack Syria and we stopped them.

"What will it take for Israel to kill Arafat?"

Paitence, a good scope, a steady, hand and a .308 round should do the trick, I would think.

I think the fear is that, with Arafat in, things are terrible. With him taken out, things could become horrific!

Bush either needs to get serious about fighting terrorism or get of Israel's way.

I have been very disappointed in this so-called "War on Terrorism". Ok, we took out the Taliban... bin laden is still out there, Hussein is still in poer, and we're trying to broker negotiations between Israel and a terrorist!

if Israel wanted Arafat dead, it would only take about 30 minutes from the "go" order to "completion" ... Arafat knows that ... Israel knows that Arafat knows that ... and now you know that Israel knows that Arafat knows that ... 8) 8) 8)

Look, if they kill him now then they will have to deal with all the backlash in addition to the new & "duly elected" (ahhhem!) ruler of "Palestine" playing the same cat and mouse games that have been going on for more then three decades..

They are working on a wall that should provide some relief. Hopefully it's finished soon.

Unfortunately, what Yassir and his diaper-headed buddies are missing is the total and complete lack of alternatives to an entire generation of budding homicide bombers.

They are leaving the Jew's with no choice but genocide.. and eventually, that's what it's going to come down to.

(and don't expect me to cry when it happens, it's long overdue as it is)

A conspiratorial-minded person might plausibly argue that the Israelis don't kill Arafat because he's been their deep-cover agent provocateur for thirty-odd years, repeatedly leading the Palestinians into violent cul-de-sacs that ensure that they will never get their own state. Arafat's record is one long string of self-defeating failures, and under normal circumstances he would have been assassinated or dumped into exile by his own people long ago. They haven't done so because of the aura of martytrdom so effectively woven around him by Israel using him as a consistent punching bag. It's so perfect it has to be intentional. LOL.

That reminds me of one of my daydreams.. Truly, the mother of all conspiracys.

The Pallies are known for blowing themselves up. It's no secret to anyone that many times their bombs go off prematurely, killing the bomber and his pals before they even reach their destination.

Wouldn't it be interesting if someone posed as Russian Mafia and actually sold them a small nuclear device and then detonated it within the palestinian area.. before it ever reached it's intended target?

The net effect would be a bunch of dead palestinians and, depending on the fissoinable material used.. land that's uninhabitable for anything ranging from a relatively short time to tens of thousands of years.

What will it take for Israel to kill Arafat?

A clear shot?

Actually, I had this conversation with my brother a while ago. He's more of a historical scholar than I ever could be.

The big problem, as he noted to me, is that taking Arafat out would make him a Martyr (big 'M'), and one of a caliber that an entire crusade (sorry, jihads are so 'September 10th') against Israel, and might even be the spark that causes Saddam to lob whatever nuke he has at Bethlehem or Tel Aviv.

I truly don't know. I've got to do a bit more thinking on this one before I come to a final conclusion...

So publicly messy though. A laser guided bomb in his apartment window would be much neater, and just as final. Nothing for the "newsmen" to take pictures of that would tend to make him a bigger martyr than he would otherwise be.

In all probability, the Israelis prefer to leave him in place and slowly discredit him and the idea that the PA can can be leaders of a state.

Well, I suppose you're right. Of course, you just know that even if that old fart croaks in his bed, in his sleep, they will still call him a martyr.

It's another example of damned if you do; damned if you don't.

What's with the little red car, sporting suicide doors?

I wonder why a small free agent group of special ops guys haven't done this yet. When Arafat was under arrest a few weeks ago, people still found their way into his compound. Of course, if this happened, it would probably ignite a war.....
