  • (vanity) Counting down to new KEIB 1150 Los Angeles

Now that it’s January 23rd, it’s not just KFI that’s going to be the loser. Rush Limbaugh is going to lose out, too.

I can barely hear KEIB on my home radios, and I live in L.A. - not on the fringe, but right in the middle. Can’t really hear it in my car, either, so if I’m out and about during Rush, I won’t be listening to him.

I’ve been attempting to listen on my computer at home, but it’s screw up after screw up. This morning - 15 minutes of straight commercials from 10:30 to 10:45 a.m., followed by 3 minutes of Rush and then more commercials.

I’m calling it KIB now, because there is no “E” at all.

    Good thing I have Audible.

Except he is Jewish and no Jew should swear on the Christian bible.

I was raised Lutheran but I have since ‘converted’ to the Noahide faith and, like the Jews,we share the Hebrew Scriptures.

Any oath I had to take will be on the Hebrew Bible. Doing so is not disrespectful to non-Jewish family members. A Jew can remember their grandparent without taking an oath on a Christian Bible. Doing so is a slap in the face to Torah,G-d Himself and the Jewish people.

No Jew should swear an oath of office on any Bible - Jewish or Christian. It's against Jewish law and considered taking G-d's name in vain. Jews are supposed to affirm, not swear.

It's perfectly legal, and as a notary for years, I often administered affirmations instead of oaths.

This is why I created the Polite Politics group on Facebook. We’re center-right to Libertarian (with one liberal), and the first rule is that we must be polite to each other and the people about whom we post comments.

I did that during the election season last year, so I wouldn’t go crazy, and we’re still going strong even now. It’s a closed group by invitation only.

I’m so sorry you hate baseball.

My family has friends in Scotland, and about 30 years or so ago, they were out here visiting, and the father said he wanted to see a baseball game. So, my father, who has never forgiven the Dodgers for leaving Brooklyn, gave him a book that had the rules and other bits about the sport in it.

When we got to the Big A (due to undying L.A. Dodger hatred, my father had become an Angels fan), we taught the family how to sing “Take me out to the ballgame,” which caused them to ask us what Cracker Jacks are. Apparently, it was rather addictive to our Edinburgh friends, and they went through many, many boxes during the course of the game.

During the practice session before the game, we had to explain that the fungo bat Jimmy Reese (still alive then) was using was not the actual kind of bat used in the game. We were told by our guests that it resembled a cricket bat.

Anyway, before the game started, we all rose for the National Anthem, which the father sang beautifully. We were really touched that he took the time to learn the words!

We showed him how to keep score and how to follow the game. The father was thrilled; the others not so much, but we kept them well supplied in Cracker Jacks, hot dogs, peanuts and beer.

After, we all went to a wonderful restaurant that no longer exists - Belisle - known for its classic American food and brobdingnagian portions. I suppose, living in a polyglot place like Southern California, I was used to hearing all kinds of accents (I worked in a place that had Brits (including Scots) and Aussies, and one illegal Canadian, etc.), so it short of shocked me a bit when I was asked to explain what strawberry shortcake was.

For several Christmases afterward, we sent them cases of Cracker Jacks, until candied corn finally crossed the pond and hit their shores.

Years later, I married a man who liked soccer but not baseball. For various reasons, the marriage didn’t last, but I never again dated an American man who hated baseball. Can’t trust ‘em.

Baseball should be illegal full stop.

"The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come." - Field of Dreams

“Baseball, it is said, is only a game. True. And the Grand Canyon is only a hole in Arizona.” - George F. Will

Love the series! New book coming out this fall, too.

I think not only should his golfing be curtailed, but any non-essential travel by Obama, and ALL travel by Mrs. Obama or their children should be stopped for the duration of his presidency.

By non-essential travel - it means if he wants to give a speech on the road, too bad. Do it from the Rose Garden. In fact, in this day and age of electronic communication, he doesn’t have to leave the White House at all. It was estimated by the U.K. Mail that it costs $1.4 BILLION taxpayer dollars a year to support the Obamas, including $100,000 a year for the damn dog’s caretaker.

A friend of mone answered an ad to buy hundreds of old vinyl records and drove to OH to get them. He was taken to a basement where he saw multiple gold records on the wall. They said Meatloaf, and Bonnie Tyler. Turns out he was buying Jim Steinam’s record collection.

Total Eclipse of the Heart for Tyler. I wish I had been there to make a better offer!

I've always felt that, while Steinman can songwrite for other singers, Meat Loaf is the best artist for his music, just as I've always believed Art Garfunkel was the best for Paul Simon.

BTW, at that 1977 concert, Steinman opened the show, played the piano throughout, and voiced the male part of the dialogue that starts the song Hot Summer Night.

I know it dates me, but I got to see Meat Loaf on his original 1977 Bat Out of Hell tour at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium - 10th row seat.

Meat Loaf is a helluva singer, and his partner, Jim Steinman, is a helluva song writer (sort of the Wagner of rock).

California will be closer than many people might think. I live in Hollyweird and there are NO Obama signs here, except on old junk Toyotas and outside Sect 8 housing. Turnout for this election is going to heavily favor Romney.

2008- you couldn't walk 10 feet without seeing some Obama merchandise somewhere. It's all gone now as people curse the Imam every time they fill their gas tank.

I'll back you up on that. I'm in Sherman Oaks - I've only seen one Obama bumper sticker (on my wacko leftist neighbor's car), but amazingly enough, I have seen Romney/Ryan bumper stickers in . . . wait for it . . . Encino!

And I know there are more Romney supporters even in my apartment building - we talk to each other, but we don't put anything on our cars (fear of keying or worse).
