The 92-year-old revealed on "The View" that many women in show business were rude to her in her "little Puerto Rican past."
Rita Moreno just let loose at The View's Hot Topics table.
The 92-year-old Hollywood icon joined the talk show on Monday to promote her role in the new comedy filmThe Prank, in which she plays a mean-spirited professor falsely accused of murder, and revealed that she channeled the prickly dispositions of select peers to prepare for the role.
"I just thought, how am I going to play this terrible person? And I thought of all the women in my life — particularly in show business — who'd really been awful to me. All of these bxxxxes," Moreno said after cohost Sunny Hostin asked the Oscar-winning West Side Story actress how she approached the part.
"I said to myself, I thought, I'm going to use all of the things that they did with me and my little Puerto Rican past, and that's what I do," Moreno continued. "Boy was that fun."
Moreno didn't name names, even though panelist Ana Navarro shoved a cue card toward her and asked her to write them down.
Moderator Whoopi Goldberg — who, alongside Moreno, is also an EGOT-winning performer — echoed Moreno's sentiment about Hollywood, voicing agreement with the performer's assessment of star temperaments in industry circles.
The View was a fitting place for Moreno to make the claim, as the show has long hosted infamous squabbles among its cohosts — including an iconic 2007 clash between Rosie O'Donnell and Elisabeth Hasselbeck, which the show recently referenced during a mock Double Dare trivia game last week.
The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET on ABC.
Yeah, what the gosh darn? Going on ‘DUH view’ tells you all you need to know.
The View = The Spew
Kind of funny she’s complaining, when she is 92 year old Latina who is still getting roles!
Do they ever? How lovely it must be to just say crap that happened without any receipts, to get sympathy or sisterhood or whatever the hell they're looking for.
Last year when Brooke Shields had that documentary about her and in the prepublicity run-up she said she had been raped by someone in the industry, not a huge name but someone known ... and did not name names. Anyone can say anything if you don't name names, right?
Why not call out the bastard? How many others has he raped and continues to rape? When the MeToo was in full swing all kinds of actresses came out with "I was assaulted," "I was sexually harassed", I was this and that. NO NAMES. Just wanted the cache of being part of the abused, or whatever. I would have gone scorched earth no matter the fallout ... but that's just me. :)
You want her blacklisted? She's got a bright future ahead of her.
Yes, that's true. But their could be legal and career ramifications if you do.
Look at Corey Feldman. He's been going on for years about the abuse he and his friends received. He's done a lot, but he hasn't named names. Is he making it all up?
If it’s not a mia.culpa for killing her offspring it’s irrelevant.
I’m sorry, I looked it up, and Corey Feldman did name names.
Women who name names have to deal with the consequences.
She said she got an abortion?
And even at 92, I’d still hit that...
Maybe.
She looks pretty spry and might be able to get away...
wasn’t mine....
Wasn’t she a regular on The Rockford Files back in the 70s?
I think that’s the source of some of her Emmys.
Not a regular. Just once.
“Rita Moreno wins the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress for a Single Appearance in a Drama or Comedy Series for her role in The Rockford Files.”
She was good when she guest starred on “The Muppet Show.” Her musical number with Animal was priceless.
Always liked James Garner, too.
