One of them is composed of a bunch of evil reptiles that appear human who have infiltrated America in order to destroy it and establish a one world government based on fear and domination. When their plan is almost complete they send a leader out who promises hope and change.
The other one is just a TV show.

BTW - I think this remake is sufficiently different from the original to make it worth watching. It looks really well done.
