NASA Space Shuttle Program Lands For The Last Time

Today, early this morning at 5:56 AM, EDT, today, the United States NASA Space Shuttle Atlantis landed in Florida, marking the end of an era in space travel, exploration, and discovery. I was able to watch online the shuttle land, with brilliant early morning warm weather just before the sun was getting ready to make its appearance. Also had down a standing ovation and said THANKS for the memories of thirty years of space shuttle flight.

The sad thing though about this las space flight is that it now has made me grow a bit older and much more sadden that a part of America has “died”. Truly, this last shuttle landing reminds me that RIGHT NOW, America is a nation that is at a major crossroads, one that with the upcoming Presidential elections come next, will decide the course of the direction it will take.

Also this opens up the question about private free market enterprise companies stepping up to the plate with efforts to design and put together space craft. There is about least four companies working together, one of which goes by the name of “SpaceX”. What will happen, could take a number of years to get off the ground.

But until something good comes from these companies, there will be the memories.

“The space shuttle Atlantis and four astronauts returned from the international space station in triumph Thursday, bringing an end to NASA’s 30-year shuttle journey with a “wheels stop” Thursday morning. (July 21)”

“With the shuttle program ending, private American aerospace companies like SpaceX are preparing to send supply missions to the International Space Station. (July 20)”

A ERA of space travel coming to a close today. Could "SpaceX" carry the torch in the future?

So, it’s over. I think we can just mark it down in Obamajaad’s legacy that he was the man who destroyed our exceptional space flight program. The cost of which from 1972 to 2010 was $209 bi...llion.

Compared to the $4.6 TRILLION Obamajad has pissed off in less than 24+ months, it is chump change! The benefits we’ve received from medical techology and equipment, laser scans and prosethic appliances was worth that. Not to mention the microwave, cell phone and satelite technology, and earth studies and mechanical engineering and more.

Let’s just mark this down with the destruction of our economy, job market and our private health care system; giving Hitler down in hell pure bliss as he wrings his hands in gleeful anticipation over each death for lack of health care treatment. Along with a line noting that he was successful in making ALL Americans have equal opportunity at the poorhouse and soup kitchens called food stamps.

Let’s put it on a gold plated plaque Entitled Dumbarsed Community Agitator of Communism and retire him to hang it in his house made out of cow dung in Kenya in 2012!

Then let’s pick up the pieces of our country and put it back to work, INCLUDING a private NASA Space Program and prove that we can do it better anyway!

God bless our Astronauts all brave men and women serving our country, and let us remember with honor those brave space pioneers who who gave it ALL !

Since SpaceX has launched and recovered a capsule that I would have taken a ride in (regardless of NASA 'man-rating') I would say that SpaceX has the stuff.

Question is "How long, and how many hoops until NASA 'man-rates' something that obviously works"?

I am really hoping that big government allows the private space industry to take over. It’s time and it will be exciting to watch.
