You Can’t Fool Mother Nature

It’s been a cold winter, the result of “Climate Change” if we are to believe the disciples of the Church of Global Warming. How then do you explain the inconvenient truth of the attendant problems of the electric motor car due to, uh, frigid weather? It seems that despite all the hype and hope electric cars are still subject to all the same laws of physics which bedevil the rest of us:

Disgruntled owners of (Tesla) Model 3s have been widespread on social media and online forums, talking about numerous issues they’ve had with cold weather on their vehicles. People have complained about battery range draining and Model 3 door handles freezing up.

Problem #1: where do I plug in my hairdryer?

A new report by Fortune highlights several Tesla owners pointing out their issues: "My biggest concern is the cold weather drained my battery 20 to 25 miles overnight and an extra five to ten miles on my drive to work. I paid $60,000 to not drain my battery so quickly," said New Jersey based Model 3 owner Ronak Patel. – Zero Hedge

You have to wonder: were the Tesla owners simply unaware of how energy works? Or did they honestly believe that Elon Musk not only rode the zeitgeist of the postmodern post-industrial world to the bank but also managed to drive the laws of thermodynamics1 to a new terminus? Unfortunately he did not. Although others are working on solutions to address all these issues:

Don’t let any of this discourage you though if you’re inclined to save the world from global warming. What’s a little inconvenience when we’ve only got 12 years left to save the planet?

LOL!! Dumbasses. Charging your car saves the earth. No coal needed to charge your car. Walk to work if you truly believe in saving the earth. And be sure to cut off the electricity at the office and work in the dark

They get no sympathy from me. I know that batteries deliver less energy in the cold. If these people don’t know, it’s their stupidity that led them to buy the damned thing.

Do you want to heat your car in the winter? Oh, you didn’t know that the heater runs off the battery?

I have no tolerance for feel good stupidity. Let them freeze.

All of these stories are FAKE, we learned from AlGore and Cuomo and Bloomberg a few years back, that Snow, Ice and Cold weather will never be seen in the USA Again.

Reminds me of years ago when I had a very expensive new GM car and a 10 year old VW beetle. One awful winter in Ohio (most are), we had a terrific ice storm with both cars covered by ice.

Since the new car had better heating, I struggled and struggled to get into the GM car. Lots of time getting the door to open. Then the POS wouldn’t start. Fail.

Went to the trusty bug. Door opened easily. Car started almost immediately.

Learned well, That was my last GM car. As for Tesla - good idea a bit too soon. Tesla has GM quality, and we know where that got them.

YUP! And none of the current state of the art synthetic winter wear either. Cotton or wool. There ya go. We have a winter storm warning in place until Tuesday at 1000 hours. Sideways snow currently. Blizzard warnings for the Tahoe/Sierras down to Mono Lake area until tomorrow. Guess warming up the Tesla is out for today. ;-)

No you didn’t you disingenuous prick. You bought the car and bragged to anyone who would listen about the hundreds of different cool things it has and can do. Except most are just superficial bling so what does that say about your reasoning.

I learned, years ago, after several ice storms, to place a small electric heater in the floorboard of the car, and close the door with the power cord barely sticking out. run an extension cord to an outside, or through a cracked open window to an inside plug.

Then in the morning, promptly plug in the cord upon arising.
When you then leave for work, the ice is often slightly melted and freed from the windshield, for easy scraping and the doors are unfrozen.
Just make sure you unplug the power cord at the car door before driving off.

I’ve researched Tesla extensively. Here are a few interesting facts.

Tesla has no Dealer network per-se. Tesla expects its customer’s to be their salesman and rewards them handsomely. This referral program has been recently ended. I’m speculating but will guess that Tesla traces critical reviews and it will impact customer referral $$$. Since the program is ending expect to see more critical reviews in forums.

Tesla requires a NDA for most warranty work. (How many secrets buried there?)

Tesla subsidizes it’s resale value so you can’t get a true estimate of it’s value. How that works exactly I don’t know.

There are so many shady deals that I could go on all day.

No dealer network and if you buy a salvage Tesla the company will refuse to sell you parts to fix it.
