Taurus Judge: A Gun That Fires .45 Colt And Shotgun Shells
19FortyFive ^ | 4/19/2021 | Caleb Larson

The Judge’s primary pistol cartridge is the .45 Colt, a cartridge that has enjoyed popularity since its introduction in the early 1870s. The cartridge served as the standard U.S. military handgun cartridge for nearly 15 and was originally a black powered cartridge, though modern loadings use smokeless powder propellant.

Likewise, the .410 shotshell came to life in the 1870s, and despite its old age is still regarded as a lighter, more manageable shotshell, particularly for new or smaller shooters. The shell’s relatively small diameter lends itself well to rifles designed for pest control or as military survival rifles — or according to Taurus, for personal defense.

You need to step it up. ‘19FortyFive’ is giving ‘Am Shooting Journal’ a run for its money.

I got one as a Christmas gift, put a couple of cylinders of ammo through it and put back in the safe. It hasn’t seen daylight in over 10 years and most like will never again until I die. It’s a novelty item that serves no real purpose, it doesn’t do anything well.

To big for concealed carry. If you’re going to carry one on your belt open, there are in my option better choices. If you want more power a .357 or 44 mag revolver can give you that in a more compact package. I’ve seen this firearm being shot and was not overly impressed.

“have fun finding ammo for that brick.”

Someone at Taurus is an absolute genius for inventing that monstrosity. And the marketing for it will be studied for decades as a lesson in how to sell one of the dumbest ideas ever.

“Let’s make a gun with a rifled barrel fires shotgun shells. It’ll toss pellets God knows where! And if they load it with a full power .45 Colt round it will be absolutely uncontrollable. Genius I tell you!”

“ a black powered cartridge...”

It was a BLM gun? C’mon, proofread just a little.

“... It’ll toss pellets ...”

I researched this one. I considered that, since I’ll never be a marksman, it would accomplish what I needed to do at close range

Saboted deer slug at close quarters works for me.

How’s tricks in the patch?
Moved home to Michigan but I keep my eye on the Permian.

“I considered that, since I’ll never be a marksman, it would accomplish what I needed to do at close range.”

And when a couple of those errant pellets I mentioned strike a bystander you will be explaining your decision making process to a jury.

I have a Rossi circuit Judge. I love it. Cleared my land of some pesky varmints, and very versatile since it is a revolver that shoots 410 shotgun AND 45 longs.

When the SHTF it can become a nice hand cannon.

Still rolling, things are starting to kick back up again, I’m doing re-entries on some of my older wells and working over a few others. With oil in the 60’s we’re starting to move again. Not sure what part of Michigan you’re in but I put in several wells for AMOCO up around the Kalkaska, Traverse City area back in the late 70’s early 80’s. Y’all got your own patch up there. I’m sorry we never got to meet.

Let’s see:
“.410 shotguns loaded with shot shells are well suited for small game hunting and pest control; including rabbits, squirrels, snakes, rats, and birds. A.410 loaded with 1/4 ounce slugs is effective against larger animals such as coyotes and deer.”

I used #9 shot snake hunting and it works well. It will also take 45 long colt ammo which is good for self defense. If I was limited to only one pistol it would be a 410 pistol.

I’ll never carry it. I just want something to keep on the nightstand.

I was thinking, if anyone gets that far into my home...he’ll be close enough to get a face full.

I’m sorry we missed-out, too.
Good to hear about Permian.

Yeah, the Antrim shale is a weak oil play but we have one of the largest storage fields in the US in that same area (MGS)
I grew up around the Albion-Scipio line, oldest production field in Michigan (Marathon).
Pinged KC. She’s in Odessa.
Stay busy, y’all!

Three .36 caliber balls at short range in a dimly-lit bedroom appears to be quite effective. Actually, close-range anywhere. My bedstand gun has first two chambers with No. 9 shot, then three of 000.

God forbid, but I figure that after the first shot, with the Bad Guy holding his face and screaming, it gives me time to get the wife and I outta Dodge or to unload the whole cylinder. The threat should be stopped by then. :-)

How many pellets are in a .410 buckshot shell, and what is their effective range?
