Bacharach was known for songs such as 'Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head' and 'I Say a Little Prayer'

Composer Burt Bacharach has died at the age of 94.

Bacharach died Wednesday at home in Los Angeles of natural causes, his publicist Tina Brausam said Thursday.

The Oscar-winner was known for songs such as "Walk on By," "Do You Know the Way to San Jose" and many more.

Bacharach triumphed in multiple art forms.

He was an eight-time Grammy winner, a prize-winning Broadway composer for "Promises, Promises" and a three-time Oscar winner. He received two Academy Awards in 1970, for the score of "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" and for the song "Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head." In 1982, he and his then-wife, lyricist Carole Bayer Sager, won Oscars for "Best That You Can Do," the theme from "Arthur." His other movie soundtracks included "What’s New, Pussycat?," "Alfie" and the 1967 James Bond spoof "Casino Royale."

I liked his tunes done by Dionne Warwick. They were so happy and cheerful. From another era. Compare this to today’s pop songs. Full of angst, cynicism and negativity. Though Bruno Mars puts out some jiving dancing happy songs/

___________

George Burns | It’s Nice to be Anywhere

When it comes to the length of your life, what do you consider long enough?

On March 9, 1996 comedian and actor George Burns passed away at the age of 100. He was still performing live comedy, until just a few years before his death. At his 98th birthday celebration, he addressed his guest in true “George Burns style“, saying “It’s nice to be here . . . at 98, it’s nice to be anywhere.”

At 98 years-old, George Burns considered every day a gift and he was right! Whether you’re twenty-two years old or ninety-two, life is precious and should never be taken for granted. None of us are born with a guaranteed number of days on this earth. We have no promise that we will be here tomorrow and should realize that each moment is priceless. In acknowledging each day as an irreplaceable gift, we will be more likely to make the most of the time that we are given.

Start each morning by thanking the Lord for the day He has given you. Then spend that day, as if you meant what you said.

I was born in 1960. My parents were ‘easy listening’ people. His music really was the soundtrack of my childhood.

Burt Bacharach was a great song composer, and his lyricist Hal David was equally great. Together they wrote the last chapter of the Great American Songbook.

Katharine Ross. One of the things I envy Sam Elliott for.

I was born in 51. Same thing. Andy Williams, Frank Sinatra, minstrel shows, South Pacific, Oklahoma.

I listen to and like many styles of music, and Bacharach & David were truly a great team.

I suppose I prefer those who write in many styles, and many of my best liked tunes are narratives or paint pictures or scenes, but, hey, I can listen to Bacharach / David compositions done well, all afternoon or evening.

Rest in Peace, Mr. Bacharach. You were truly one of God’s gifts to us mere mortals.

I may take some flak for this, but Burt Bacharach was a good songwriter... but Hal David was a GREAT lyricist.

Years ago, I did a study of longevity based on careers. The professions that seemed to live the longest were - orchestra conducters, morticians and professional golfers. So I asked "what do these have in common?".

1) They are, generally, their own boss. There isn't a "boss" to answer to. This reduces the stress on the heart.

2) They do a lot of standing.

3) They waive their arms a lot. I presume they get regular cardio exercise by constantly swinging their arms. For morticians, this is true if they also perform gravedigging.

What do you get when you kiss a guy?"
You get enough germs to catch pneumonia.
After you do, he'll never phone ya.
I'll never fall in love again.

There was a book on death about 50 years ago and it said that hard workers died younger than sedentary professor types.

Your hands above the head were mentioned as well I believe.

Having been my own boss most of my life, I know the stress of wishing there was a boss to call for help, someone to pass the responsibility or the decision on to or to even ask how to do something.

In my work, I didn’t know if I was going to a job that would be simple and routine, or something that was large in money and scale, and something that I didn’t know about, but...... I was the boss, and couldn’t walk away or call for a supervisor or the owner to tell me what to do or to do it for me.

No kidding.

She was beautiful (and probably still is). She will always be Elaine Robinson.

What a wonderfully talented man. My parents took me to see him in a small setting for my 7th birthday back in 1972. I still remember the listening to some of the most beautiful music live.
