Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel, who was stabbed while delivering a sermon that was being live-streamed online this week, has revealed he is doing ‘fine’ and has forgiven his alleged attacker.
Mari Emmanuel was preaching at Christ The Good Shepherd Church in Wakeley in Sydney when a 16-year-old boy walked up to the altar and began stabbing him.
The Bishop was later rushed to Liverpool Hospital, where he spent the last few days recovering.

Mar Mari Emmanuel was certainly dressed in the full armor of God that day. The attackers knife failed to open and the priest was not harmed nearly has badly as he could have been.

Has the attacker asked for forgiveness? Has he repented?
If the answers to those questions is “no” then preemptive forgiveness is decidedly un-Christian.

I’m not up for a scriptural game of badminton. Many, many verses saying for us to forgive others when they sin against us. The Lords prayer says it and nowhere, in many other verses, is there a caveat saying they must ask for forgiveness. It talks about repenting (I’m sure you are referring to Luke 17:3-4), but then I ask you, does Jesus contradict that by saying in Luke 23:34, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” Is there repentance in that scripture?
There are no contradictions, just wrong interpretations. I believe your statement is incorrect by what I have read and learned.

Yep. “IF he repents you must forgive him.” That’s a conditional statement.

Jesus asked God to forgive them. Notice he didnt say “Father, I forgive them.”
So there’s no contradiction there at all.
