Now that New Orleans is 100% blight...(Eminent Domain thoughts?)

New Orleans is the most urban area hit by Katrina and the most likely to be cut up by land grabbing public entities. From a municipal view point, every parcel of property is blighted and is subject to eminent domain proceedings. New Orleans will sieze upon this trajedy to remove unwanted neighborhoods in favor of lucrative tourist attractions. What do you think?

There is some city planner drawing it out as we speak.

The "unwanted neighborhoods" are pretty much irreparable and will be demolished anyhow, and I can't imagine why anyone would then turn around and build brand new slums back in their place..

PS. It's also worth noting that most of the "underclass" of New Orleans will probably never move back. They have no reason to that I can think of. They will resettle in the new cities. The future "underclass" of New Orleans will be primarily Latino immigrants associated with the construction. The New New Orleans will be a totally different city.

Not really - many homes are not that wet and even those that were submerged might get away with new wiring, sheetrock, and fixtures.

That a lot less expensive than starting from scratch.

Think Trump is thinking about it or is he smarter than that? Maybe he can be creative and build a bubble building that floats... :P

Some Godawful memorial to the Katrina victims, with info on slavery, lynchings and how Bush was at fault for everything.

Whatever gets built will be totally different than what it replaces, and it won't be "unwanted" or else it wouldn't get built.

The homes that aren't yet wet are in the most wanted neighborhoods of New Orleans (from the Garden District to Bywater). The slums have all been inundated, most up to rooftops.

You're not thinking like a democrat. Je$$e Jackson wants those slums back like yesterday already. These displaced people have been "acculturated", and he doesn't want to upset that arrangement.

Naw. There's more than enough "tourist area" left.

It's obvious that outside of the port facilities and the Latin Quarter, the highest and best use for most of the land between the lake and the river is as a wildlife refuge ~ lots of 'gators, wildpigs, you know, the regular stuff. Other areas can be opened up for more intense urban development.

"Unwanted neighborhoods" in the sense that city planners want to build something else, not that it is slum property. Places where homeowners want to rebuild. Sorry I didn't make that clear.
