Someone who was paid $9 million upfront to be the leader of a team is extremely selfish to risk this type of injury by riding a motorcycle.
As for it being "inherently unsafe" compare and contrast the list of Ben's injuries with those of the woman with whom he collided. They were both in the same accident. She has no known injuries, and he has his head and knees in shambles.
Why?
Because motorcycles lose when they collide with cars. Therefore, they are unsafe. It may not matter much when the average Joe rides his bike and ends up using his face as a battering ram, but when a highly-paid professional athlete allows himself to be in this situation, it is selfish and foolish and disrespectful.
SD
"May" is the key word here. If he has a family and friends, it DOES matter.
Someone asked what I think when I see people on cycles. For about the half of them that drive like lunatics, weaving in and out of lanes, driving between cars in lanes, speeding, crossing 4 lanes on a freeway at once with no signal, etc., I just pray that the driver who squashes them someday isn't traumatized for life. Especially when the first nice weather day hits. Some go berserk. Most riders are safe, but I worry for them because one bad move by them or a car or truck and they are in a world of hurt compared to someone in a car.
I know someone who had a cycle turn in front of him when he was a young kid. Killed the guy. Not a scratch on the kid. Not his fault. But it will be with him forever.
I am moving on to another thread.
I don't have the time and will likely make enemies if I reply to some of the most idiotic postings I have ever heard about a subject of which the poster has not the slightest idea what he/she is talking about.
Electrowoman,
Keep the rubber side down.
Just the other day, during motorcycle week in New Hampshire, a cyclist crossed over the divider and crashed into a Jeep. The Jeep rolled over onto three cyclists who were doing nothing wrong. The score? 4 dead cyclists and no serious injuries to the occupants of the Jeep.
I believe Dave is making the point that Big (Stupid) Ben was being selfish in that his actions have a great impact on many others. A foolish action on his part is therefore selfish.
