Boortz: LIBERALS AND YOUR AIR CONDITIONING

LIBERALS AND YOUR AIR CONDITIONING

Time Magazine ran a piece called "Kill Your Air Conditioning" in order to denigrate you evil people who have the "luxury" of keeping your air conditioning on in the summertime. The writer Joe Klein says that the "unnecessary refrigeration of America has become a chronic disease."

Hmmm sounds a bit similar to Barack Obama calling for all of us to change our thermostats based on what other countries think is OK ...

But moving on ... Klein says, "Air-conditioning is bad for the planet, and for national security, and for our balance-of-payments deficit." Even though air conditioning equates to about 4% of our energy usage.

But his argument gets even better. Take a gander at this one:

"Actually, George W. Bush's failure to call for sacrifice — and fuel conservation would have been a great one — after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks has been one of the great failures of his presidency.

"The next President will not have the luxury of that sort of indolence, and, happily, both Barack Obama and John McCain have been talking about conservation as a means to get our energy situation under control.

"So why not start now?

"I'd like to see both candidates call for an immediate 5 deg.F thermostat adjustment, just to get the conservation ball rolling — and because it would be a 'personal virtue' for each candidate to ask it of us".

Screw them. I live in the South.

And in the winter we can all wear sweaters instead of turning up the heat in our homes.

Let’s pull the air conditioners out of all government-subsidized housing to start with. Let’s also ban those on public assistance from possessing any polluting luxury items, such as air conditioners, cars, etc...

Why should the taxpayers subsidize such waste and environmental damage !!!!!

/sarc but not completely

What about the loss of productivity, due to millions of people having sleepless, sticky, miserable nights without A/C in their homes?

I for one can’t sleep a wink in a sticky, hot room.

I’ll agree that some public establishments set the A/C too cold though. Granted, I think from a comfort standpoint, in a place where people are trying to relax or work, it’s better to err on the side of cold than hot.

If Obama gets in we may very well see A/C governors by 2013.

The Bureaucrat in Your Shower

Daily Article by Jeffrey A. Tucker | Posted on 1/10/2006

http://mises.org/story/2007#

[snip]

You mean they regulate how much my shower sprays? Yes indeed they do. Government believes that it has an interest in your shower? Yes it does.

And it is not just crazy California. The Federal Energy Policy Act of 1992 mandates that “all faucet fixtures manufactured in the United States restrict maximum water flow at or below 2.5 gallons per minute (gpm) at 80 pounds per square inch (psi) of water pressure or 2.2 gpm at 60 psi.”

Or as the Department of Energy itself declares to all consumers and manufacturers: “Federal regulations mandate that new showerhead flow rates can’t exceed more than 2.5 gallons per minute (gpm) at a water pressure of 80 pounds per square inch (psi).”

Would love to know where Joe Klein sets HIS thermostat. Probably another of the “do as I say, not as I do” bunch...

HA! Not in my house. Not hard to rip those POS restrictors out of the fixture.

Klien joins the new meme: power use as an addiction or disease. Also, pushing sacrifice as new patriotism. All to “save the planet”.

Unfortunately there’s nothing wrong with the planet. Libs are going to be in for a big surprise. Coerced sacrifice is not going to be popular at the polls.

As for me, as soon as Hollywood and the liberal elite park their private jets, sign me up for sacrifice.

>>>>>What about the loss of productivity, due to millions of people having sleepless, sticky, miserable nights without A/C in their homes?<<<<

Not to mention that nearly 100 percent of office buildings are designed with A/C in mind. That includes ALL federal buildings in DC.

I was working in an office last winter with an improperly regulated thermostat set at about 80 degrees. By afternoon, half the employees were dozing off at their desks. People started complaining that they couldn’t work in the afternoons because it was too hot, and finally it was fixed.

Idiot Joe Klein is too ignorant to know that in countries without air conditioning (SE Asia and Central America for example) there is a 2 1/2 lunch break, usually from 11AM to 1:30PM. The 30 minute siesta is alive and well in those parts of the world.

DC used to completely shut down in the summers due to the normally hot and humid summer climate (Russia and the UK provided tropical duty pay to their DC embassy staff).

Happy Fourth of July, to all fellow Freepers and their Families. Also a special thanks and Happy Fourth Of July to the United States Military and their Families, stationed here and throughout this world./Just Asking - seoul62.......

Oh I agree! I lived in Spain in a respectable size city and the place just shut down between 1-5 pm. Again, this wasn't some sleepy little village but a city.

Ain’t no problem high prices can’t cure.

China, India etc will all force their populace to reduce energy consumption so businesses can have lower energy costs, thus making those countries even more cheaper to do business in and costing thousands more of American Jobs.

>>>>HA! Not in my house. Not hard to rip those POS restrictors out of the fixture.<<<<

It's not the removing that's the problem.

I spent 30 minutes looking at every single showerhead at Home Depot a couple months back. You may be surprised to know that every single showerhead sold or installed in America meets the 2.5 gpm federal law, and most manufacturers are now putting the "low flow" valve inside the mechanism where you can't get to it or remove it.

If you ever saw the Seinfeld episode where they're buying illicit Eastern European showerheads from the back of a van, well that's the world we really do live in now.

I was briefly toying with the idea of having unrestricted showerheads made in China (they're cheap) and selling them on eBay. Then I found the federal statutes and penalties, which are Draconian.

When I was working overseas, if we went 5 minutes past the start of the daily lunch/siesta/shower break the guys got very antsy and upset.

It was so bad that myself or the local manager had to assume that shift, because the staff absolutely refused to do it. Yet we were one of the very few offices in the city with 7x24 A/C, and we paid them well besides!!

114 here in Phoenix today ... we've had several days over 110 the past few weeks.

Has California gone into the homes yet to "adjust" thermostats yet, like they threatened to do recently?? Scary living next door to that state!
