I like the clunkers and weirdos. I would buy a cd of Idol clunkers if available.

When I come out of a room screaming in joy, I need someone there to shove half a burger in my mouth.

Re grammys: daft punk was good too. And I have a lil crush on Pharrell. Yes, I can forgive him the sorting hat.

Good mornin' all...

About Paisley van Patten, the Cher impersonator..the recovering alcoholic (and kudos to her for getting her life back)..I thoguht the AI rules were that if you ever had a recording contract you were INELIGIBLE..IOW: NO Professionals..it's an AMATEUR show

Is Obama now the executive producer for AI?

BTW..if someone on the show has a twisted sense of humor, they'll have her room with...yup..Tequila..in Hollywood..if that doesn't cause her to fall of the wagon..she's CURED..

Samantha Calmes..who did the Jeffersons theme..if they decide to make another biopic about Janis Joplin..she'd be perfect..

Which got me thinking...?

I went to school at NYU..Washington Square Park.. in the early 60's and Greenwich Village back then was an incredible scene. I managed to survive..LOL.. All the little bars and coffee houses, and an incredible music scene every night. I saw, among many others..Bob Dylan and Janis Joplin when they were just getting started...so here's the question:

If Dylan and Joplin auditioned for AI..would they make it?

Here's an early Dylan clip "Blowing In The Wind (1963)" which looks strangely like an AI audition

And here's an early Joplin cut ( NO videos exist..so just listen)

She was a primal force on stage..I caught her once at Rocky's..on West 4th..what a dump..but they all were..she knocked off a QUART of Southern Comfort during a one hour set..

I also caught Judy Collins ( the most beautiful voice ever...) and Joan Baez...you knew they both were gonna make it big..

It’s a trick question, ken, but I have the answer. Listened to both those cuts. First thought is that they couldn’t perform like they did or what they did, because everyone would say “ like a young bob Dylan” etc. My answer would be yes because they have that X factor. Bob Dylan’s voice was like someone singing with a bee up each nostril. But he tapped into the very correct style of earthy folk music, bridging the beatnik - hippie transition. He was smart and his rhymes were complicated in form, putting rap stanzas to,shame in form. Rap is AAAA every stanza. He did ABBA or ABAB etc. his lyrics were current and he had such quiet confidence. He had the big IT and if he came on the scene to Idol today, all that would be felt by those, three and they would, have put him through. Same with Joplin. She was dirty and rough and they don’t only choose clean and refined.

So it’s a yes. They’re going to Hollywood.

Thoughtful analysis..but not sure if I’d agree. Pop music today is so carefully packaged, that someone so “pdifferent, so outside the box” probably wouldn’t get a contract...The labels invest a lot...and they’re not willign to take that big a risk

He looks like a goose. He’s two and and a half and downstairs right now with a foster duck who’s three months old in her own crate. I’m just fostering her cuz between Obama’s crap and the duck crap, someday, the crap’s gotta go.

It’s so obvious that this girl is a ringer. Like that Irish girl a few years back who was a professional with many recordings to her credit (and tattooed sleeves.)

A Reprocessed Idol.

Shelayne, we are counting on you and retrokitten and MAGS for some good nicknames this season.

I agree with those above who said they can’t sort the contestants out without nicknames.

I coulsnt tell if it was an award program or soft porn with Satanic overtones......(I turned it off)

The part I saw (didn't watch it all) was more stupid than anything else. Paul McCartney's new song, with Ringo on drums and Yoko dancing in the audience was embarrassing. The robots and Stevie Wonder was dumb. And when Queen Latifiah started preaching to me about "same love", I turned it off.
