New ‘Passion of the Christ’ sequel will be ‘biggest film in history’: Jim Caviezel

Actor Jim Caviezel, world-famous for his portrayal of Jesus in the blockbuster 2004 movie The Passion of the Christ, has confirmed that he is joining forces with director Mel Gibson to reprise his role in a sequel about the Resurrection, now on the drawing board.

“There are things that I cannot say that will shock the audience," said the actor in a USA Today interview. “It's great. Stay tuned.”

“The Resurrection. Big subject. Oh, my God,” said Director Mel Gibson in a 2016 interview. “We’re trying to craft this in a way that’s cinematically compelling and enlightening so that it shines new light, if possible, without creating some weird thing.”

The Academy Award-winning director who also co-wrote and produced The Passion of the Christ is still conceptualizing how the story will be told on the big screen.

“I won’t tell you how he’s going to go about it,” Caviezel told USA Today. “But I’ll tell you this much, the film he’s going to do is going to be the biggest film in history. It’s that good.”

The Passion of the Christ brought to life the last twelve hours of the life of Jesus Christ in a powerful, graphic way that had never before been achieved. Despite Hollywood’s disdain for movies about Christianity, audiences flocked to theatres to see it, making it one of the most successful, highest grossing films in history.

Caviezel, who besides being an acclaimed actor, is a man of faith who publicly challenges his fellow Catholics to live their faith out loud in this darkening world.

Earlier this month, the actor spoke before a huge crowd of college students in Chicago at the SLS18 (Student Leadership Summit 2018) conference sponsored by The Fellowship of Catholic University Students (FOCUS).

“Set yourselves apart from this corrupt generation,” the actor challenged those in attendance. “Be saints. You weren’t made to fit in. You were born to stand out.”

“We must shake off this indifference, this destructive tolerance of evil. But only our faith and the wisdom of Christ can save us,” he said. “But it requires warriors, ready to risk their reputations, their names, even our very lives, to stand for the truth.”

“By God, we must live,” Caviezel concluded, “and with the Holy Spirit as your shield and Christ as your sword, may you join St. Michael and all the angels in sending Lucifer and his henchmen straight right back to Hell where they belong!”

Hollyweird comes out with all these violent gun movies and then says that “The Passion” was too violent.

Violence is all about context. I love bloody action films. "Passion of the Christ" is hands-down one of the most violent films I've ever seen.

No telling what the “shock” statement was about - love the Passion and will not hesitate to see this - if there are “inaccuracies”, believers who are familiar with “The Book” will not be duped and there is no reason to believe that Jim or Mel would attempt to mislead on this topic.

St. Veronica - Saints & Angels - Catholic Online

Saint Veronica is known as the woman who offered a cloth to Jesus so He could wipe His face on the way to His crucifixion.
The cloth is believed to exist today in the Vatican and is considered one of the most treasured relics of the Church.
Saint Veronica is not mentioned in the Bible, but is known to us by Catholic tradition ...

I'm sure that writers write for the audience they have.

No, I think that the contents of cemeteries re-animating and wandering around Jerusalem falls under the heading of general interest. Odd that this never seemed of interest to any historian.

It seems that most Hollywood productions about Jesus end with the empty tomb, but gloss over those forty days He spent on Earth before the Ascension.

Forty days of His Godliness made manifest on Earth. That's a pretty big story.

If I had a time machine, and it was a one-way trip - it would be to those Forty Days.

My personal view of this is mixed. To begin, after my first viewing of "The Passion", I have not been able to sit while the movie is underway. I must stand, or kneel, but I cannot sit and watch as though it is simply entertainment. For me, it is a matter of respect - not of the movie, but the remembrance of His passion. Consequently, I have seen it only a very few number of times. I own several unopened copies of the movie, and have gifted copies to people who don't quite understand the nature of His sacrifice.

I suspect the same will be true of the Resurrection, for all the same reasons.

I have heard the story. I believe the Bible has everything we NEED to know in order to understand God's love for us and how to secure a place with Him for eternity, I I also acknowledge there is much relevant information that is not in the Bible. We all have to make our own choices and I have made mine - I want to be redeemed via His loving offer and have asked Jesus to accept this unworthy sinner as a fully justified member of His household.

It's nice to talk to you w/o some of the angst we have been known to show each other....God Bless

Ah, perhaps now I can watch the film, by obtaining a copy and playing it in the privacy of my home where I can weep and kneel as needed. I have not been able to go and view such an exhibition and spiritually intense film in public for I know what will happen to my old heart as I see what until now has only been found in my imagination as I read ‘the book’.

But we NEED the ‘angst’ for these mere words on a screen are so passionless!

When he went off on a clearly Oriental police officer, asking him if he were Jewish, I saw that as a drunken man making a joke. Of course he wasn’t Jewish

You are mistaken, he was Jewish.

Jim Caveziel and his wife adopted three children from China. All three children had cancer at the time they were adopted. All three are still alive and I hope are in good health.

Jim Caveziel is a good man.

Yes, I recall him saying that. He has a calling from God. He is blessed. Thank-you for telling others about his family.

You are correct, I was wrong. Add that to the picture I had in my mind from the time, it was a clearly asian officer. This guy looks neither Jewish nor Asian, but is clearly a “redneck” who has been a problem for LA authorities for a while, read above link.
