D.B. Cooper Mystery Solved? Investigators Say He Is Living In San Diego
CBS San Francisco ^ | February 2, 2018

It’s a bombshell development in a 45-year-old cold case mystery.

A commercial airplane hijacker escaped with a daring parachute jump in 1971 and was never seen again.

A team of private investigators says it has cracked a code that it says shows the infamous hijacker who went by the name D.B. Cooper is, in fact, a man who lives in San Diego named Robert Rackstraw.

Rackstraw is a former Stockton resident, whose family also lived in Calaveras County.

Hard to believe this. I was saying in a past thread how people always claim they are a famous person from the past. In the 30s and 40s it was old white guys saying they were Western Outlaws. The dozen or so mobsters who said they killed Jimmy Hoffa, the random nuts who confess to high profile murders, the woman who said she was Amelia Earhart etc.

Insane 'detective'?

The odds of anyone surviving a jump from 10,000+ feet in pitch black over a heavy forest at the cruising speed of a 727 is very slim. Even if he did manage to land without injury there is still the problem of navigating the NW woods to a rendezvous point. Even if we assume the plane was flying the exact course he instructed and he jumped at the exact time he planned he could easily be 20-30 miles off course and with no GPS a compass is not going to do a whole lot.

If I remember right the plane was flying through a storm at the time as well.

Then there is the fact that some of the money was found a few year ago which leads me to believe that D B Cooper died in the fall from the plane.

Different, related article,

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3628293/posts

It was a rainy, windy night, and he jumped out wearing loafers. Likely they fell off before the parachute opened.

Wonder if his skeleton is in a tall Oregon tree.

The Rackstraw story is actually pretty old. It was a History Channel special and the subject of at least one book, ‘The Last Master Outlaw’.

The main ‘investigator’ is a Hollywood producer. Presumably, Rackstraw is being paid for the harassment so the producer doesn’t get the pants sued off him.

Could he have pretended to jump and snuck off the plane later?

Interesting. I knew a fellow from one of the poker clubs who was trying to peddle a story about DB cooper being alive. This was at the advent of the proliferation of email. He had none and asked me to contact some news reporters via email.

He committed suicide that year. Shotgun in the mouth type. But he lost a tremendous about of money that year having been suckered into a scam from one of the many con artist you find hanging around free money.

This was in San Diego.
